interesting choice I guess.
seems pretty clear that the Archive is not going to be releasing the better known classics that Warner has yet to release on blu, though it's nice to get anything at this point.
still hard to believe that Warner may never release films like "High Sierra" or "Swing Time" on blu-ray.
tired of thinking about it after so many years.

I pre-ordered at that price. I can't stand the bootlegged looking covers from WB Archive however I do LOVE the higher bit rates that Archive uses.. Lately Iw ish they'd put out more.

Is this the only title we know about upcoming for BLU from WB Archive they sometimes drop around 2 around the same time.

Couldnt agree more, their choices of blu ray releases over titles such as High Sierra, the Big Sleep , Out of the Past , etc is mind boggling !!!!

Seems like the archive is getting the "C" musicals. Except for "Gypsy" they've released some real duds (Jumbo, Hit the Deck, Kismet)

Where is "Annie Get Your Gun" "Show Boat" "Kiss Me Kate" Finian's Rainbow" or "Victor/Victoria"

I would guess that "The Band Wagon" "Seven Brides For Seven Brothers" and "Yankee Doodle Dandy" would all fall under the main branch at Warner Home Video and not be released through the Warner Archives because they each received a 2 disc Special Edition DVD release and these are also considered "A" titles

Aw, they missed the chance to do a Dolores Gray double header by releasing "The Opposite Sex" at the same time!

I'll take this...although I'm questioning like Musicguy...where's Showboat?

Victor/Victoria was already released by the Archive as a DVD-r (go figure). What about Kiss Me Kate in 3D?

Warner Home Video and Warner Archive are two separate divisions. They cannot release each other's titles. Warner Home Video is going to retain any title that has a likelihood for more commercial appeal. Something like Kiss Me Kate (which needs a 3D release budget) or Seven Brides for Seven Brothers will never be given to Warner Archives.

I think everyone (including director Vincent Minnelli) was disappointed in the movie of Kismet, so I'm surprised this one is getting a Blu-Ray release. Even if Warner Home Video is saving the "A" musicals like The Band Wagon, Kiss Me Kate, Show Boat and Seven Brothers for deluxe release, it does seem like there were other "B" musicals that Warner Archive could have released: Bells Are Ringing, Finian's Rainbow, Brigadoon. And yes, I realize that not everyone will agree with those "A" and "B" designations.

I'm sure there are considerations of the source materials that they can prepare within a certain budget that come into play here.

Of all the titles listed in this thread so far, Victor/Victoria would seem the most likely as we know a) it's controlled by Warner Archives, b) it got a fairly recent release so source elements are probably reasonable to work with for a Blu-ray release.

Home Video or Archive, the choices are still baffling. If there is no connection between the two, why would Home Video decide what to give to the Archive?

I never said WHV gives WA anything. The parent of both divisions more than likely decides which titles are more marketable to the general public (WHV) and which ones are not (WA).

I think your ranking is pretty accurate, but where are the "B" titles - I like some of those better

The problem is that I don't think Warner will release those in time for 1080p BD at the rate they seem to be moving at.

The problem is Warner doesn't want to release them...for whatever reasons (I always guess it because they want you to download so they ONLY make it available as a download)

But that's just a guess judging from their HD download list
