Hello, i recently started having problem with my slim PS3, ive had it for 2 years and have never had problems with it before but just the other day some blu-rays started skipping on it. This started happening a few days ago (with The Office: season 8 and Killers).
The next day i bought a new blu-ray player (LG BP330), The Office: season 8 played flawlessly but Killers continued skipping. I plugged in my PS3 today to test a few more blu-rays before i got rid of it and all the blu-rays that i tested today played fine from beginning to end (Jackie Brown and Deep Blue Sea) im a little confused with whats going on, im assuming Killers is just a defected disc but i dont understand why The Office season 8 wont play on my PS3. Has anyone had trouble with these movies before? do ps3 maybe struggle playing flipper blu-rays? (The Office season 8 is double sided, blu-ray and dvd) all the discs are in perfect condition by the way oh also i forgot to mention that when i bought The Office season 8 originally the first disc wouldnt play on my ps3 so i exchanged for another copy but this time the 2nd disc wouldnt play on my ps3. that's why im thinking ps3s might have trouble reading flippers. this was my first time playing a flipper on a ps3. The only problem I've had with the PlayStation is Blade Runner it doesn't always load. It just hangs on the spinning disc. |

I forgot to ask, do you have the PlayStation hooked up to the internet? I can't remember if it's season seven or eight with The Office but it has one of those ticker-tape updates on the main-menu, if you have BD-Live enabled and your connection is turned off it might cause problems. I usually have:
Settings > Video Settings > BD - Internet Connection > Confirm on my PS that way if I play a disc when I'm off-line it will ask me if I want to allow connection (I say no). |

My PS3 (60g upgraded to 500g, latest firmware installed) struggles to recognize "transparent" discs. Most recently Tai Chi Hero. Usually after several, even dozens of attempts re-inserting it will load. I've never been able to watch the original Conan the Barbarian in the living room because of this.

I tried The Office Season Eight on my PlayStation and it worked fine. Disc One wouldn't play on the first attempt (an error code came up) but when I allowed Internet access discs 1, 2 and 5 played fine. I disallowed disc 5 access and that worked fine too.
I'm not sure what happened the first time with disc 1. |

I'm having problems with my Office S8 as well. I have internet connection off. I tried it on two different PS3 slims and same error. I eventually got it to play by hitting triangle and then play from beginning. But I couldn't get the deleted scenes to work at all. The error code is 80029940. I just tried it with internet on and same error. I can only get it to play by play from beginning. I was just able to get deleted scenes to play though.
I an so sick of bd Java and online crap with discs. Dexter is unwatchable with internet on. And I'd just like to add f### flippers and any studio that releases them. Last edited by Mobe1969; 07-27-2013 at 10:18 PM. |

Try turning Super White Off / On in the Video Settings. Restore Default Settings of the player. Allow or Disallow Internet Access for the BD. Try playing the disc with the PS3 on it's side! |

Well, did go ahead and restore the settings, and it made no difference at all. Definitely a PS3 thing - I can see the little white "sonar" running in the top right, but it will never load regardless of Internet connectivity. DVD won't play either.
Can play the DVD on my laptop, but I will have to buy a cheap blu-ray to handle discs that the PS3 can't do I guess..... |

Does the PS3 have the latest firmware on it? Cause I think this behavior is the same I have experienced on 2 of my PS3's.
But disc's are fine on my Seiki $50 player where the firmware hadn't had an update yet. I know the latest update did update the firmware on the drives and there are thousands of people claiming all sorts of issues with this update. Sony is typically ignoring their concerns as usual. |
