I felt the same way around 2005-2006. I knew HD-DVD was coming, my DVD purchasing came to a complete stop. Maybe I picked up a title or two that I couldn't resist waiting. It was a good decision which saved me from rebuying a lot films/tv shows.
Anyone else feel the same way? |

Nope. For my living room and viewing distance, 1080p is as good as I need my picture quality to be. Blu-ray will serve just fine.
Anything above that is really just overkill. Besides, I really don't feel like buying a new TV, a new receiver and a new 4k player. Enough is enough. Last edited by benricci; 02-04-2015 at 10:51 PM. |

No I am not slowing down, It will be a while before I get a 4KTV and 4K Blu-Ray Player. (I have a PS4, but I don't know if that counts as a 4K blu-ray player yet.) I have a 4K AVR, but its not HDMI 2.2 and it only does 4K at 30fps. I plan on using this AVR a long time before getting a new one.

I will upgrade only when blu-ray is dead and buried. I have upgraded from VHS to DVD to Blu and Blu is perfectly fine for my purposes.

Nope.
4k exists as a set of proposals, specifications and prototypes. I expect the amount of real software and hardware making it to the consumer level will be little more than an expensive trickle. Realistically, Blu-ray never really caught on. I expect 4K will go virtually unnoticed outside of these forums. Last edited by Dex Robinson; 02-06-2015 at 03:49 AM. Reason: Spelling |

4K is going to be a bust just like 3D, ie. only a very small % of end-users will adopt it. Look how few have really adopted Blu-ray at this point, compared to DVD.
But the studios will probably try to force it on us. Look out for $50+ "combo packs" with a 4K Blu, std. Blu, and of course, the DVD ... ![]() |

Not at all.
At this point my interest in 4k is nil. I love my current TV and don't relish buying a new one, not to mention a new BD player and media. I'm thinking 1080p and my current set up will last me at least another seven years or so. |

i wont be buying 4k until its everywhere and comes down in price
just imagine the prices to start off with. who wants to pay $50 for 1 film when you could buy 2-3 blu rays for that price. remember how expensive blu ray players were when they first came onto the market? sonys first blu ray players was $999. that is exactly what will happen with 4k for the first couple of years Last edited by DJJez; 02-05-2015 at 12:20 AM. |

I upgraded a lot of my older dvds for the sake of better PQ (or because I really really enjoy the movie/tv show) and kept many others (admittedly a lot of them were never released on blu). 4k will definitely look nice, but as others have said, in my small apartment 4k would be a waste. Once it goes down in price and I need a new tv I may upgrade. Until then I'm very happy with what I got.

Hmmm. Sounds similar to forum responses (Not this one) years back when members were asked if they would upgrade from DVD to Blu-Ray. DVD was "good enough" back then. It's easy to hold out until one of your favorite movies gets an upgrade that outshines the Blu-ray counterpart. What if, for example, they finally get The Dark Knight right in 4K? I bet a lot of members will take the plunge then if the price is right..

Nope. We might get to the point somewhere down the road where people will be starting 'I can't even watch blu-rays anymore' threads but I doubt I'll be getting to that point anytime soon.
And if I ever do get to a point where I regret continuing to buy discs now, well, that's a problem I will welcome with open arms. |
