Default New Stringer quotes on PS3 sales: much better

"It's the breakthrough we've been anticipating," Stringer said. "We've been holding our breath."

"It puts us vastly ahead of where the other format is going to be in terms of an installed base in people's homes by the end of this holiday season"

Great news. Let's hope the momentum continues. Getting a solid install base of PS3 (with a bundled Blu-ray movie) will be key. I'm sure once people watch one blu-ray movie, they'll be encouraged to buy more.

I didn't realize that the PS3 was that far behind the other consoles for 2007.
This will help Sony catch up now that the Wii is pretty much done for the year.

On the Blu front, this is obvious good news.

The Wii is far from done. I work at Target, and it's as popular as if it just came out. Every day I get asked, "Do you have any Nintendo Wii's?" I probably get asked 5-6 times per day. Nintendo doesn't even know if they can meet the demand for the holidays.

The good news, however, is that Wii owners have the lowest attach rate of any of the three major systems. Every person I've seen buy the Wii has bought it on impulse, and most likely they just play Wii Sports or one of the Mario games. It's actually funny; people will buy something that's $250 on impulse, but they take a look at the PS3, and say "that's too expensive."

I don't think Nintendo ever plans on meeting the demands...they love their sold out buzz.

That is why they announced that they will not be making price cuts on the console this year.

I just thought of something funny...what if Nintendo decided to add a HD VMD external player for their console...and then started shipping the Wii's with them internally. They'd have the largest attach rate for HDM. That would be tragically funny. What is up with that crap anyway?

I thought he meant the Wii was done in that they've produced what they are going to for the year, and that it'll still be insanely hard to find as they trickle them out to stores.

When will people get it? The Wii is NOT a "major system". It is a video toy compared to the power of the Xbox or PS3. The real competition in the MAJOR console race is between the Xbox and PS3. The Wii isn't in the same class, hence its cheaper and has much lower capabilities then the other two. To even compare in the same breath is just plain wrong.

I totally agree. Would you believe a woman in Gamestop had the nerve to say the Wii had better graphics than the PS3?! My pimp hand could hardly contain itself. Two people jumped down her throat almost immediately.

I can verify that since we own both a Wii and a PS3.

I will be in the same category this xmas . The Wii will be moved to the room with the SD tv while the PS3 will take its rightful place next to the HDTV

I've had my eye on the console wars since the launch of the Xbox 360. PS3 has been last in sales from the start only because of the price. Wii, to the surprise of no one, is leading in sales because it's the cheapest at $250. Sony designed the PS3 to be kind of future-proof, so that when Wii owners are ready for the next console from Nintendo, PS3 will still be an amazing next-gen console. Sony knew this would be a tough console war, but they've has always kept their eye on the long term, and PS3 was designed for that. Sony has won the last two game console wars. In a brilliant move from Sony, all those PS3 gamers are ready to play Blu-ray movies.

I agree. I have a Wii and after 3 weeks of playing Wii sports and Wii Play we all got tired of it and never touched it again. Now it sits in the entertainment cabinet collecting dust.

There are just no games for it that interests me, except maybe Mario Galaxy. But with Call of Duty 4, Assassins Creed, Uncharted, Haze and Shivering Isles there's just no time for it. Not to mention all the awesome demos that come out every Thursday on PSN.

I was gonna but Guitar Hero for the Wii, but when I realized that it was in Mono(!) I decided against it. I want something that will actually use my Onkyo

I agree too. My 10 year old has both WII and PS3 but he only uses the PS3. The WII was cool for a few days. Now its going to his 5 year old cousin after having not been touched for 4 months.

Sell it. I bet you can get a decent amount for it... and you can use the $$$ to buy a PS3 if you dont already have one.... and buy guitar hero for that
