United Kingdom Black Friday 2014

As Amazon have started the Black Fridays deals early (sneak peak deals) I thought I would start a thread for this years lightning, daily and weekly deals.

I've also had a look on Amazon US and there are some items you can get early access to the deal only if you are a prime member. Hopefully the UK won't do that.

I hate it when they repeat deals later in the week, great for those who missed out I suppose, but with the already lacklustre line-up it's even more annoying when they don't list different titles.

Despite there being some economic evidence to support lowering the price increasing sales, it's a hard sell. And whilst Amazon can strongarm people into lowering prices (they're currently trying it with Hachette, much to Hachette's very public annoyance), it's not worth it for a 2 hour event...

Got my copy of Fringe earlier, I'd been considering getting it for a while, but it was always on the backburner, however at a price like that it would be rude not to...

Black Friday is the last Friday before Christmas and always will be to me.

Saying that, my home county Cumbria, calls it Black Eye Friday.

The police did try to rename is Festive Friday a number of years ago though: http://www.cumberlandnews.co.uk/blac...-week-1.469764

These Black Friday Amazon deals rarely set me on fire but I did pick up all Four Indie movies or a good price, so I'm not going to complain.

Up Today (All times GMT):

'24: Live Another Day' at 1.00pm. Current price: £25
'Falling Skies: Season 1-3' at 2.00pm. Current price: £32.20.
'House: The Complete Collection' at 5.00pm. Current price: £83.84 (from Amazon direct, significantly cheaper from Amazon sellers)

Also of interest, because it hasn't been given a BD release in the UK (but some seasons have in the US), may be 'The Office - An American Workplace: Seasons 1-9' on DVD at 4.00pm. Current price: £68.53

I thought Falling Skies looked interesting, but wasn't ever able to see an episode. Anyone seen it that would care to comment?

Might have to pick up Falling Skies because it's only half of the series. I know that sounds weird but at least if I utterly hate the first season, I haven't paid the extra for all five seasons (which is why I never went for the Fringe set).

To be honest the entire Black Friday thing seems a bit stupid to me. It's not a British tradition, it's probably not going to become one. Why go to all the effort when all that happens is people get violent and your store gets bad press?

That said, as a consumer, who doesn't love a bargain?

I just think of it as the annual Amazon Jumble Sale, with the occasional good deal thrown in as chum to keep the frenzy going.

I'm only interested if the Friends Blu-Ray set goes down in price but I might have to wait until Boxing day for that. Usually our Black Friday sales aren't that great.

It will probably be as desultory as the UK sale last year. No other major online competition from Best Buy/Walmart as in the US does not help.

I would hope the Miss Marple: Volume 1 ends up in it.

I'm hoping for a boxset of The Walking Dead again...
