Risen is a very moving, inspiring film . Joesph fiennes give a memorable performance as an unbeliever who struggles to cope with what he had considered unbelievable. Music score is wonderful. Some critics ,i'm sure trashed it simply because it is religious. Great selection of extras

Good movie.

Picked up at Walmart today, which also has a different slipcover than the one pictured.

Might give this a shot. Even though I'm a Secular Humanist, I enjoy a good Biblical film.

This is an excellent film with an interesting spin on the retelling of the tale. It can appeal to devout Christians and non-Christians alike. Joseph Fiennes is, as always, excellent. I've never understood why he has not racked up Oscar nominations nor the award itself. It was criminal when Paltrow and Dench won Oscars for Shakespeare in Love and Fiennes wasn't even nominated. He was as brilliant as Paltrow. He could well have been nominated for Enemy at the Gates as well. It's quite baffling.

I'm not Christian and I thoroughly enjoyed and was intrigued by the film. Give it a shot. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Just finish it, this movie for me is the best about Christ since Gibson's Passion and it works as a sequel too, contrary to the heartbreaking and grief scenes on The Passion This movie gave you hope and some times you even smile, I'm not christian but I fully enjoyed it, Fiennes also did a great job, This actor is so underrated, What I most like about this movie is that it is built like the old school way of making Biblical movies so simple no more excessive violent and gore.

While I agree that he was excellent in Shakespeare in Love (and Enemy at the Gates, for that matter) -- 1998 was a really tough year for Actor in a Leading Role:

Robert Benigni -- Life is Beautiful
Nick Nolte -- Affliction
Edward Norton -- American History X
Tom Hanks -- Saving Private Ryan
Ian McKellan -- Gods and Monsters

Someone was going to get screwed either way. Just happened that it was Fiennes in this case.

Now I'm watching Pasolini The gospel according to St. Matthew and it is by far the most accurate and greatest movie about Christ, Actually I have to find a space for it on my top 10, Highly Recommended.

The film was very well-done; I especially enjoyed the humanity of the Apostles and Clavius' brief conversation with Yeshua at night. I think the term "spiritual sequel" holds double meaning here, but appropriate in both regards. While Passion of the Christ shows the penalty He paid for all our sins, Risen is about an honest search for freedom...and the joy we find once we accept it from Him.

Just watched this over the weekend for the first time. Picked it up super cheap over the Holidays. Some parts I really enjoyed and others were just too Meh. I'd give it a 3/5.
