I wasn't sure where it was best to post this so feel free to move this elsewhere if necessary
I'm in the process of moving my steelbooks from bags to slipcovers and I was wondering how many titles I've got both a steelbook and standard release for. Usually I will just buy the steelbook (unless there is a regular version with an extra disc or a collector's set I want) There are times though where I've bought the regular release and some time down the line, it has a steelbook release so I end up with two copies. I hadn't really thought about it until then, but I've done a rough tally and it comes to about 100 or so titles (and a couple of boxsets), but it could be more While I'm not necessarily running out of space (apart from for boxsets), it does seem stupid to take up shelf space with duplicates, and there are certain sections where I could do with more space. It's amazing how many Fox titles I have two of. I do have titles where I have different steelbook versions, but I collect steelbooks and I don't mind I also have titles like the original Transformers where I have a two disc release, and no steelbook contains that extra disc, or titles where I have bought the Warner Archive release and then it's been released as an HMV Premium Collection title. For that I'll keep both. I'd never buy the WA release if I already had the HMV one The reasons I liked having them was because they looked good on the shelf, because they boosted the collection numbers and because I thought why sell them if I will only get about 20% back of what I paid for them The first two aren't necessarily that important, and it does make sense to get some money back for unneeded titles. I have criteria for what I keep when I upgrade from DVD to Blu-ray, and would still stick to this. Also, I'd always make sure I have a Blu-ray copy if I also have a 4K only release, but if the 4K contains the Blu-ray, then I don't need the individual Blu-ray release if I have it There are plenty of other details I could go into regarding slipcover releases or the different artwork, but I was just wondering if anybody else had come to a similar realisation or another one On a final note, I'll still always pick up that cheap Nicolas Cage movie, that's space I'm willing to use |
