bluray only. but i dont mind dual format releases from the Major labels if they are not more expensive compared to the bluray only release. there are always friends that are happy with the digital copys or DVDs i dont need.
for labels like Criterion / MoC / BFI etc.. im fine with dual format releases. |

I'd rather have the BD only except for the kids/family titles for my SUV DVD player. The problem is that the BD only versions are often more expensive than the combo packs.

If a Blu-ray/DVD Combo case does not take up any more shelf room than a Blu-ray Only case, then I'm ambivalent. The way I see it, I have a slightly inferior backup disc just in case the Blu-ray dies out at some point in the future when the movie might not be available.
If the addition of a DVD takes up extra room (*cough* Criterion Collection *cough*), then I would prefer a Blu-ray Only case. |

I prefer the blu-ray only. One of the best examples, to me, is the Skyfall blu-ray release. The combo pack had that awful bright white cover art of Bond sliding and pointing the gun whereas the Walmart 1-disc blu-ray had a black background (which matches other Bond blu releases) and Bond in a tuxedo on the cover. That was a way better option for me.

Depends on the price but I usually try and get the blu-ray only as I don't see the point of having both formats - if I am buying it on blu-ray, I want it on blu-ray, not dvd. But it depends on the price as usually the combo packs are either cheaper or have all the extras so I end up grabbing that and giving the dvd to family.

Yep, been selling the included DVDs on eBay now for a few years unless it's a kids/family title.

There are many, many threads asking people about whether or not they like having the DVD in addition to the BD.

I can deal with a missing dvd copy in a cheap used combo pack. What I can't deal with is a stripped down "rental version" of anything. Even though I hardly ever watch extras anymore, I still want them if I know they exist because at some point I might just want to see them.

I prefer Bluray only. However if the only way I can easily get something is via a DVD and Bluray combo pack then that's OK. Even though I'll rarely touch the DVD's. As long as the Bluray has the best sound and picture quality available I'm happy.
Ultraviolet I have no use for however. Last edited by takeasneededforpain; 07-08-2014 at 05:39 PM. |

I also find it particularly annoying though on some titles such as The Graduate or To Live And Die In L.A. where the special features are on the DVD but NOT the blu-ray. |
