Hope Verhoeven's movie is good since the last real movie he did was the excellent Black Book 10 years ago.

Looking forward to Neon Demon and Nice Guys. Neon Demon hasn't gotten me excited yet but Refn is always worth watching. Nice Guys just looks like good fun. Nothing else in the lineup has me all that hyped up, though. Maybe BFG, just to see what kind of reception it gets. I know I'll see Almodovar's film at some point.

Great line-up. Can't wait for the majority of these. Especially Refn's and Andrea Arnold's.

The Handmaiden, Elle and The Neon Demon all have my interest piqued (especially the first film). The Last Face could also be good, seeing how Sean Penn is a fairly solid director, but I'm going to wait and see on that.

Also surprised but not unwelcome to see The BFG get an early premiere.

Now THIS is a thread I can get behind. There's been way way way too many superhero/comic book movie threads at the top the past few days.

Nobody mentioned TWO Jarmusch films?!

Also, Assayas re-teaming up with Kristen Stewart? Totally in for that.

Jeff Nichols' Loving already has a scheduled release date of November 4th. Pretty crazy that it's been 4 years since Mud came out, and now he has TWO films in 2016.

I'm super excited for The Nice Guys, but considering it has a wide theatrical release in just a month, I'm not sure why it's even screening at Cannes, considering the festival is the 11th-22nd of May.

Build up hype/publicity. WB gets to say it screened at Cannes and if early word is positive then all the better.

Not that it needs those endorsements, it already has my money

Looks like a great lineup! Loaded with big name Directors- we will see if some of these films live up to the names they have behind the camera.

I'm most excited for Almodovar, Dolan and Refn. Looks like a great line up this year. Also very happy to see a Finnish film in the Un Certain Regard competition (something that doesn't happen often unless it's an Aki Kaurismäki film)

I want to see basically all of these. I hope that with this announcement The Neon Demon gets a trailer soon.

I've see Dheepan already. I definitely liked it.

I know Cannes is a little more prestigious than other film festivals, but is the entire dynamic a lot different?

A lot of the films that are being shown are already known films. Films that have been discussed about for a while. Films that are already picked up by distributors and have release dates scheduled.

Stuff like Sundance, TIFF, and SXSW seem to be more about discovery. You go there without any expectations, and you see a bunch of movies that have never really been talked about. A lot of films get picked up for distribution from Sundance.

Disagreed about TIFF, over the last 10 years it's become where studios go to launch their awards campaigns. The only thing anyone's discovering is which movie will win the Audience Award and therefore become the Best Picture frontrunner.

Cannes is more like Berlin or Venice. All of them have more international line ups when TIFF and SXSW etc focus more on american films. Cannes is and will always be THE film festival where the most respected international auteurs want to premiere their films. Personally, I value Palme D'or a lot higher than the Best Picture Oscar.

Nice to see two Jarmusch films in the line-up! I haven't seen Midnight Special yet, but seeing how much I love Mud, I'll trust Jeff Nichols with anything. Refn's new film sounds amazing too, and I like Elle Fanning. I loved Clouds of Sils Maria and I liked Mommy, so I'm interested about Assayas and Dolan's new flicks being in there as well! Incredible line-up.

I'm also unbelievably excited for The Nice Guys.
