Looking forward to Neon Demon and Nice Guys. Neon Demon hasn't gotten me excited yet but Refn is always worth watching. Nice Guys just looks like good fun. Nothing else in the lineup has me all that hyped up, though. Maybe BFG, just to see what kind of reception it gets. I know I'll see Almodovar's film at some point.

Great line-up. Can't wait for the majority of these. Especially Refn's and Andrea Arnold's.

The Handmaiden, Elle and The Neon Demon all have my interest piqued (especially the first film). The Last Face could also be good, seeing how Sean Penn is a fairly solid director, but I'm going to wait and see on that.
Also surprised but not unwelcome to see The BFG get an early premiere. |

Nobody mentioned TWO Jarmusch films?!
Also, Assayas re-teaming up with Kristen Stewart? Totally in for that. Jeff Nichols' Loving already has a scheduled release date of November 4th. Pretty crazy that it's been 4 years since Mud came out, and now he has TWO films in 2016. I'm super excited for The Nice Guys, but considering it has a wide theatrical release in just a month, I'm not sure why it's even screening at Cannes, considering the festival is the 11th-22nd of May. |

I know Cannes is a little more prestigious than other film festivals, but is the entire dynamic a lot different?
A lot of the films that are being shown are already known films. Films that have been discussed about for a while. Films that are already picked up by distributors and have release dates scheduled. Stuff like Sundance, TIFF, and SXSW seem to be more about discovery. You go there without any expectations, and you see a bunch of movies that have never really been talked about. A lot of films get picked up for distribution from Sundance. |

Disagreed about TIFF, over the last 10 years it's become where studios go to launch their awards campaigns. The only thing anyone's discovering is which movie will win the Audience Award and therefore become the Best Picture frontrunner.

Nice to see two Jarmusch films in the line-up! I haven't seen Midnight Special yet, but seeing how much I love Mud, I'll trust Jeff Nichols with anything. Refn's new film sounds amazing too, and I like Elle Fanning. I loved Clouds of Sils Maria and I liked Mommy, so I'm interested about Assayas and Dolan's new flicks being in there as well! Incredible line-up.
I'm also unbelievably excited for The Nice Guys. |
