Criterion Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) coming from Criterion in 2018

From Tulsa World article:

http://www.tulsaworld.com/scene/movi...eb9596feb.html

And yet, the actor with nearly 200 credits and a role in December’s Oscar contender “The Shape of Water” may still be seen by audiences as a part of “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.”

“I was contacted by the Criterion Collection” and they had the scene among footage supplied by Hughes’ family for bonus features for a 2018 DVD release, he said.

If it happens hopefully Criterion can carry over the John Hughes commentary from I believe was on the very first DVD release of the film but dropped on re-issues.

At this rate, Criterion will be releasing Hughes' entire filmography.

If so, they should just do a Hughes box instead of dicking around.

They might as well release all they are able.

The fact that bonus features wise Universal etc couldn't step up and break bread with his family and estate for the inclusion of deleted scenes from The Breakfast Club which has to be a huge catalog title ... Sure Criterion might as well do the best they can with many of his films.

It's all good. I own the best existing Blu-rays of the John Hughes films, but those discs are all of "not quite there yet, but as good as we've got so far" picture quality.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Criterion has done with The Breakfast Club.

This would be the most mainstream/successful film that Criterion has released in the DVD and Blu-Ray era's, with the possible exception of Armageddon.

It's impossible for me to separate my love of this film from the 1980's Chicagoland where I grew up. Therefore, I'm not sure if I can objectively judge if this film is "worthy" of the Criterion treatment or not. This film and those memories together always bring me great joy.

The fact that Criterion will be releasing "The Breakfast Club", another John Hughes film soon lends this rumor a little more weight in my opinion.

The film is already in my Blu-Ray collection. It's been a few years since I watched it but I remember being happy with the picture quality but can't remember my opinion on the audio quality.

Unless this was a stellar release it wouldn't be an automatic upgrade for me.

Call me when they get to Pretty in Pink.

Actually, since Ferris is a Paramount title, maybe there's a chance for PiP.

Hell yes! It's blasphemous that it still hasn't received a Blu-ray release.

They're out to release their own editions of all my favorite high school movies, and I'm okay with that.

Pretty in Pink was directed by Howard Deutch and produced by John Hughes.

...as was Some Kind of Wonderful, which is my favorite teen film of that era.

I'd love to see both of them receive Criterion treatment. They're with Paramount, but anything can happen someday.

Actually, I'd love to see both of them receive a decent Blu-ray treatment period.

I'm super excited for this but mainly because it means there's an ever so slight possibility that Criterion may one day get to Planes Trains & Automobiles.

I just finally bought Ferris Bueller on blu after waiting years to do so, so most likely they will put out a Criterion of it now.

You are all welcome!

Why do I get the feeling that half of the extras will be some ridiculous Rodney Ascher-like "documentaries" on all of the alternative theories of the film?

It's nice that it will have additional footage but the Internet in general overpraises Hughes' early directorial output (but not as much as recent Fincher or Villeneuve or the entire career of Xavier Dolan).
