About a year before the first hd dvd (and BD) player shipped, I started to compile a list of movies I want to buy.
As the studio support firmed up, I went back to check on the color of each item. I've always been wondering why my collectible movie list was so slanted towards blue colors. It was not a conscious decision borne out of a preference for working recordable media, or higher bandwidth, or higher data density. Actually, as I thought about it, on the surface, it seems to be a rather random collection of movies from Starship Troopers, Life of Brian, Wild Things, Stealing Home, Silence of the Lambs, LotR, Aliens, Die Hards, Bonds.... and so on. But recently, I just realized that I have a genre preference --- movies that I tend to like are more likely to come from a few genres. Which brings me to the question of genres. This can be obtained from the master list in here : http://www.boxofficemojo.com/genres/ If I list the following (in no particular order), we see a lopsided concentration of movies from blu studios. These genreas contain movies I will almost always collect with little thought: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/genres/...cifihorror.htm http://www.boxofficemojo.com/genres/...=superhero.htm http://www.boxofficemojo.com/genres/...?id=wirefu.htm http://www.boxofficemojo.com/genres/...adaptation.htm http://www.boxofficemojo.com/genres/...id=neonoir.htm http://www.boxofficemojo.com/genres/...id=vampire.htm http://www.boxofficemojo.com/genres/...d=disaster.htm and so on... This one has a lot from the only neutral studio: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/genres/...ionfantasy.htm On the flipside, here's genres that I don't have any interest in collecting (with the rare odd exception). http://www.boxofficemojo.com/genres/...=godcomedy.htm http://www.boxofficemojo.com/genres/...legecomedy.htm So if you ever wonder why you ended up with a lot of blue disks, perhaps it's because you have a preference for certain types of movies, and more often will stay away from others. |
