Default Trimming the Fat - Your BD Collection

How many of you guys have reached a point in your Blu-ray collecting journey where you felt it was time to remove films you don't like and kept only the ones you will rewatch or want to keep?

I see people with 1000-2000+ plus BDs and Im like there cant be that many good films out there. lol Im only kidding, what is good to some can be different for others. But I know we get into that collector mentality and go wild. Especially with BD prices falling so low.

What say you? Anyone started selling off less appealing titles and kept only what you deem essential or rewatchable?

Tell me Im not going crazy thinking about this? I just hate to think why am I keep all this films if there will be a bunch that wont really be watched again.
Probably already answered my question but that attachment syndrome kicks in.

So ugh yeah....

PS - Im think a thread like this may have been created before but not sure how to search for such a topic so excuse me in advanced.

I trimmed the fat a couple years ago and then made sure from that point that I would only buy favorites and/or titles I would watch more than once. So far I have adhered to this and other than my wife's movies I don't own anything I would call junk.

i'm sure there are at least a few movies in my collection that were bought on impulse for a really low price that i'll rarely ever watch, and i am beginning to run out of shelf space rather quickly...

I'm sure there's a thread like this, but it's all right. No harm.

To answer your question, I only went crazy like that in my DVD days, but I'm cool since I made the transition to Blu-ray. I'm not the only one who watches movies (I hold family movie nights as well as when friends can come over and visit. I have something for everyone). I, myself, am not that hard to please and I love movies, so even though I have over 1000, I've watch every one at least once (some many, many times). Trimming "fat", well....anything I knew I would never ever touch again, I traded a long time ago.

I do love variety though. I couldn't imagine myself only having like 100 movies. They would be burned out in no time, hahaha

I've been doing this heaps lately. There's been heaps of great titles I've let go because they were more interesting than anything I'll enjoy watching again. Sometimes one watch is enough and I can't justify taking up the shelf space or money if that's all they were.

Best idea in my opinion is to start a wish list on amazon and only add movies that interest the hell out of you or ones that you know you'll re-watch multiple times. I've been regularly selling ones I'm less fond of, in favour of ones I love or ones I think I'll love.

Slowly but surely weeding out the shitty ones and getting an all killer, no(t much) filler collection.

Also I agree with reelgeek. Props to those who can actually be content with having a collection of only 100 or so movies, but there's a lot of directors and a lot of genres that fascinate me. I love having a large variety to pick from and please guests.

Same. There's plenty of those in my collection. Be on the look out for a massive blu sale from me in the near future. Gotta clean up and make space.

I could remove a lot of the WWII based movies or cowboys movies in my collection simply because I grew pretty tired of them. The cowboys movies always have the same scenarios, lol.

When BD first came out (based on my previous experiences collecting DVD's) I was committed to only renting and then buying my favourites.

Problem was the cost of BD rentals in my area, it was obscene.

So I ended up collecting all over again.

And yes I have been thinking of trimming some fat lately, but have not done so as yet. Fact is I wouldn't get much for most titles, and it makes a good film library for visitors.

I have gotten rid of a few recently because I plan to get them in sets. But if I find a movie boring, I'll dump it first chance I get.

Thumbs up

I have sold a lot of my collection this year, and will sell a lot more in 2014. Made some decent $ selling my blu's that I no longer want.
Good thing my co-workers love blu.

I've never been one for adding fat in the first place. Rarely do I blind buy but if I do and don't like it, I get rid of it immediately. That's why I don't think I'll ever be in the 1000 collection. I honestly can't think of that many movies that I like and don't see the point in owning movies that I don't.
Right now Robin Hood (Russell Crowe) is on the fence. I blind bought it for cheap but didn't think much of it. I told myself I'd give it one more try and if I didn't like it any better, it's gone.

I done this recently and sold about thirty or so but I could probably still get rid of a few more....I'm running out of space for them which is another issue.

I don't have enough to trim just yet, although I probably do have a few dogs in the collection.

Dont think ill be able to do any trimming, selling a movie for $5,00 after i paid 20+ for it ,,,well just hurts. I think id rather just keep it in the collection,,hey everyone likes variety
In my defense i am more picky when it comes to choosing films i buy ( unless its a really good deal,,then all that goes out of the window )

I see no reason to get rid of blu rays. They don't take up much space and I have lots of space. They should last for a lifetime and I may want to watch them someday.

My movies don't have to meet someone else's standard. I'm not asserting a cultured taste or anything like that. When I'm in the mood for 2 headed shark attack then its ready to go.

I like to watch bad movies sometimes,... It's refreshing.

I buy what I like, so I don't have that problem. Buying just to own a lot of blus is dumb in my opinion.

I have a cull every now and then. I don't buy stuff for the sake of it, I simply love movies. But some I can live without, and I only realise that when I go through my collection and find a sealed title that I bought, say, 2 years ago.

I did a lot of culling back in my days of collecting DVDs, but I'm keeping all of the movies in my Blu-ray collection.

Despite the size of my collection, I'm quite discriminating when it comes to buying Blu-rays. Everything has a place in the collection.

Thanks to Netflix I no longer blind-buy as much anymore so my collection isn't bloated with a bunch of disposable movies. Having said that, most of the "fat" I'm trimming are DVDs that have become coasters by way of being obsolete. What I mean is, older titles that were released non-anamorphic, fullscreen, or just plain look awful. Space was becoming a major issue so I got rid of a whole bunch of cases and am keeping the DVDs I want in binders. The rest of my stuff I proudly display. Trimming a film library will always be part of the norm I suppose but nowadays my collection is probably 99% films I love.
