This gimmick of getting people to eat unpleasant foods is maybe the dumbest and most annoying trend I've seen in modern "interview" shows.

What he's talking about is why Guillermo Del Toro wasn't allowed to make Hellboy 3 and we got the crappy Hellboy reboot instead. It cost $30 million less to make, and made $110 million less at the box office. It'll be a death spiral if Hollywood follows a similar path of cutting budgets, which cut the interest in the movies by even more, and then they cut budgets again, and so on.

Right now, Disney wants to lose billions on Disney+ and investors are egging them on. There won't be any logic or rationality in the marketplace while the streaming wars are going on. Most likely, when it ends, we'll get back to a situation where expensive movies are made again and they will figure out a way to make you pay for it again. Right now, the consumer is being given Christmas presents for free. It's unsustainable. Your presents are going to change to coal soon, i.e. more cheap crappy direct-to-video style movies, or you're going to have to start paying more money for good content again.

Title of this thread had me thinking he was gonna say that they're literally lighting movies differently because of how they display on streaming services versus DVDs. Didn't realize it meant "greenlit."

Me too. I thought it was going to be something about how the movies have to be lighted differently because they're intended to be shown on TV. I have no idea if "lit" is some kind of new hipster term or what.

Yeah, I couldn't fit "greenlit" into the title as there is a character limit. I did the best I could.

Makes sense. But what about films made before video rentals/purchases, so everything pre-1980?

A movie that could have been made for $5 mil if he and Douglas didn't demand $15 mil between the two of them. The studio system and talent paychecks are out of f^ck!ng control. And this fallacy that studios aren't earning money from streaming is hot manure.

The thing that sticks out to me, is the split with the exhibitors is insane. That is one of the poorest deals going today. You are paying someone to show your product, when they do nothing to promote it.

Book stores and Comic stores, buy the product at a discount, and then keep the profits.

Excellent post. The situation can be summed up in the phrase 'race to the bottom'.

The entertainment industry will be around a lot longer than I will. I'll consume it however they're making it while I'm still around.
