Default Saved By The Bell Blu-ray Possibly In The Works

Decided to put this in the Wish List section since no official announcement has been made, but this report from TVShowsOnDVD.com states that Dennis "Mr. Belding" Haskins has been involved in what sounds like new extras for a potential future Blu-ray release.

I so hope this happens and we get a complete series up front.

I could see this happening, being it's still a poplar show with the fans. I use to have all the DVD sets, but eventually sold them. I would pick these up though.

Also just read that Pee-Wee's Playhouse is coming to Blu... WTF?

Wondering if these will be 16:9. In which case blah?

Yeah... I think there's been some confusion on "Mr. Belding's" part. Unlike Pee Wee's Playhouse, which was shot on film, Saved by the Bell is standard NTSC 4:3 video.

The supplement is being shot in HD though.

I was searching on my DVR and it seems that E! (channel) airs Saved by the Bell in HD! I hope it actually does, I won't find out till Monday morning because thats when the first episode airs but I can't wait to check it out.
I really hope a Blu-Ray collection is in the works with the episodes in correct order.

Yeah, I grew up watching this and the nostalgic side of me says it was fun and all but I wouldn't even buy the DVD version let alone a blu ray. Besides, it being shot on video eliminates any blu ray benefits anyway.

More accurately, they air the show on the E! HD channel, which basically means they upscale the episodes and show them way out-of-whack as far as OAR is concerned (either badly cropped or badly stretched horizontally).

These were 4:3 NTSC standard def shows shot on videotape. Period. I'm skeptical of a blu-ray release since the episodes can't be made into HD other than by upscaling, and at this point, why bother when the DVDs already exist? More episodes per disc, I suppose - that's the only rational explanation for a blu-ray release I can think of.

I can't speak to this set, but I'd imagine alot of DVD era shows could be upgraded substantially just with a modern approach to transferring/encoding the episodes - even if the source was SD.

That being said, I'm not sure there is much of a market for SD upconverts to blu-ray. So this release seems unlikely.

Same as with Married With Children, if they use the original SD masters to remaster and upscale the transfers, it'll look much better than the DVDs.

The DVDs on the SBTB set are so awful, maybe they can do something to them to look pretty?
