I just bought the Panasonic 50" plasma 1080p and am very very happy. What are they retailing for in the USA. It cost me €2800 ($4008).

The samsung dlp is a great pick up. you get the biggest bang for your buck but i would recommend checking out the led backlight dlp's the 87 series. better overall picture quality but about $200 to $300 more. check the hlt5687s.

the price is $1999, but after you add it to the cart it goes down to $1499. The thing is i really don't have alot of money to spend on a tv.

I have a 56" Samsung DLP and think it has an awsome HD picture. I think I paid about 1800.00 for it.

i have this tv except mine is the led light source, it cost a little more but you dont have to replace a $200 bulb plus there is no color wheel so you dont have to worry about that breaking.

Buy Samsung at your own risk. Some of you will remember the days when if you saw a caravan of Harley Davidson riders, there would always be a pick up truck bringing up the rear because someone was definitely going to have a mechanical problem. The same might be said for an extended warranty if you buy Samsung. Panasonic is the best buy for the money. Period.

Ok, I have to defend something here. If YOU remember back in the day, Harleys were working mans bikes, not the lawyer, doctors, etc, you see today having shops do all the work for them. Back then when you saw a bike on the side of the road you might have said "oh, there's another broken down Harley." But remember that bike was probibly 20-30 years old. Believe it or not most of the Harleys built are still around today. You can't say that about Japaneese bikes.
As for me, I have been on bikes for over 30 years and NEVER had as many problems on Harleys as I did on Hondas and Yamahas. They are the ones made from cheap metal and plastic.
And the two words I put into bold are Obviously false, as we never had a pick-up follow us, or had something "definatly" go wrong.

This is my latest ride:

Never seen a DLP I would spend money on.

I think the Panasonic 50" plasma is the bang for your buck choice and the Pioneer Elite is simply amazing.

You have to go with the 1080p Kuro, i bought one not really being able to really afford it, bread and water never tasted so good, just a hint though, on movie setting adjust sharpness from -13 to 0 and the Drive mode to 1.

I purchased a 70" 1080P JVC from BB. I first pulled up the TV set selling on Amazon for $3,600. Printed out the info with price and BB matched it. Saved over $1500.00. They prabably don't like this info spread far and wide but hey, why pay more when you don't have to.

I am aprox 7 feet away. I could use a range between 5 to 9 feet, but for my tastes... I use 7 feet distance.

I got my plasma for $300 more (Samsung FPT5084 50" 1080p) on amazon. The DLP's are awful because of their viewing angles. Even if your looking dead on you still see darkness in the corners and sides. If you get it, be prepared to spend more time apologizing to everyone in the room who's looking at a worse picture than the person sitting directly in front of it. My plasma looks the exact same from every where in the room no matter the light. Go Plasma or LCD if you can. For a 1080p TV, you're going to find that Plasma has a better Size to Price ratio.

Plasma: Pioneer, Samsung, Panasonic
LCD: Sony, Samsung

The veiwing angles are no longer a factor with the rear projection DLP 1080p HD sets. This is at least the case with my JVC 70" as it has virtually no loss of picture. No appologies necessary to the folks watching from the sides. It was very obvious with my old Proscan 60" non-HD set, but not now. To the person looking to buy a new TV, do your own searches. Amazon is a good place to bone-up on which type of TV gets the kind of ratings and has the types of qualities and options you are looking for in either plasma or rear projection or non-rear projection sets.
