Having upgraded everything else I'm now in the market for a sub. I'm leaning towards the Hsu Research VTF-3 HO Subwoofer with Turbocharger. My front L&R speakers are Axiom M80-V2s for which Axiom claims usable bass response down to 25 Hz so I'll probably be sending the LFE to both the sub and the fronts or setting the crossover to 40 Hz. Cost isn't a huge issue but I'd like to spend under $1500, less if possible. Does anyone have any experience with or thoughts on the Hus or a comparable sub I should check out?

you should take a look at definitive technology super cubes or paradigm ultra cubes both very good sub woofers. supercube reference goes down to 11hz for $1699. and the supercube 1 goes down to 13hz for $1199. the ultra cube 10 is a little power house that goes down to 22Hz but they dont list pricing on there website

I'm partial to Velodyne DD subs myself-- just absolutely bottomless bass that will integrate into the most delicate of systems. You might be able to swing a DD-12 on eBay for a little over $1500. The DD-15 and DD-18 are outstanding (I have a DD-18) but will run you over 2k.
Definitely worth a listen. |

I have a HSU STF-3, volume a quarter of the way up and it shakes the house when it needs to.
Can't go wrong with HSU, they really know their stuff, and spend alot of R&D in developing them. |

If you are looking to spend under $1500, I would definitely check out SVSubwoofers. They make some pretty crazy stuff. The tube subwoofers are insane but are nearly the size of a small water heater. I am kiiiinda in the market for a subwoofer so I've been looking at these very heavily.

Mackie
HRS-120 12" - $1100 SWA1801z 18" - $1300 SWA2801z dual 18" - $1800 Genelec 7050B 8" - $1100 7060B 10" - $1975 7070A 12" - $2700 7071A dual 12" - $4375 I would probably just get the hrs-120 or 7060b, those other ones are all ridiculous. All prices from sweetwater, you might be able to barter on a hrs-120 at your local Guitar Center. Last edited by cleric; 11-21-2007 at 11:09 PM. |

My vote is for SVS they are internet only and worth every penny. I have the end table version and they rock the house and didn't cost a ton of money. This version goes down to 16 htz and the sound is nothing short of amazing.

Did we forget to mention their solid build quality! Check out audioreview.com for feeback on all the brands that were suggested. I wouldn't worry about 11htz and below unless you wish to commnicate with whales and elephants. LMAO. Just kidding!

LOL Agreed with the sound. I like the way you don't hear something in the movie but you sure feel it. The speaker comes in a large shipping crate and the build like you say is very good. I got the black finish and it is actually acting as an end table. There is one scene in Spiderman 3 when the guy becomes Sandman is something you have to feel to fully appreciate. The sound is not distorted just knock your socks off or pictures off the way deep. This is the one that I have and WOW is the price good right now. Shipping is not cheap because of size and weight but it is the best that I have heard and I checked out many subs before buying. http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-box-plus2.cfm Last edited by Barnum; 11-22-2007 at 01:31 AM.
