- I will leave the definition of sequels, prequels and remakes up to you, with one exception. Reboots, such as Batman Begins, Spider-Man Homecoming and the likes, are not allowed, as a reboot is distinct from a remake.

- Please have a minimum of 25 films in your post and a maximum of 50.

- No flaming, trolling or snobbish critiques of other people's film tastes.

Edit: Just to clarify.

A remake should be based off a previously made film. TV series don't really count (sorry, It fans). I will also rule out films based on short films. Where this gets complicated is in the case of, say, The Wizard of Oz. There's a 1925 version that's a very radical departure from the book, is it fair to say that the famous 1939 version is a remake? I personally wouldn't include it, but if you really want it to make the list, I won't stop you.

I would, however, allow a live-action remake of a feature-length anime. My justification for this is that anime is really just a type of film, a subgenre of animation.

If you're unsure, use your common sense. Stop and think: Is this really a remake of a previous film? Is it typically considered a remake?

Well, the way I look at it (and this is how I've always understood these terms are defined), a remake is a new telling of a story already told in the medium of film, like Carpenter's The Thing which, like 1951's The Thing from Another World, is an adaptation of the novella Who Goes There?. A reboot is a new installment in a franchise that breaks continuity with what came before, like how Batman Begins ignores the Burton/Schumacher Batman films while telling a new, original story.

Maybe DeathlyGeneral disagrees though? It's his thread so the rules are up to him.

I don't know, but I'll go with 'if you aren't sure, it doesn't count', and cut The Wizard of Oz, It, Heat, and Arrietty from my list, but I'm keeping True Grit.
