Last night, I saw Into The Storm on opening night at my local Vue Cinema (UK).
Enjoyed the film, however between adjusting the ratio of the screen between trailers to the movie, the guy who did it didn't do it right, and the whole film was zoomed in. Example of this, each character when we first met them had their name and title in the bottom left of the screen. Well most of this was cut off, which at the time I thought I would let it ride because I wasn't expecting much of the film, but in hindsight I wish someone would have brought it to their attention, as it kind of ruined the movie a little. Anyways, I was thinking on the ride home, I reckon people have had much worse experiences than this... so share guys ![]() |

Whenever there is an issue with projection, or sound, I get up and complain as it's your right to do so and they usually fix it or compensate for you so I don't really mind.
What is inescapable though is the general public, as much as I love the "cinema experience" I've grown to really hate watching movies because of all people. I mean when everyone is all fixed on the film and you're all laughing and crying together in sync it's magic. But a lot of teens go to the movies for something to do, and parents take kids just to shut them up, and as they aren't really interested in the film itself, they'll talk all the way through, playing on their phones, loudly eating and kicking your chair. Ruins the film for me, makes me wish I was at home, enjoying a film were no one can disturb me. |

Worst for me was the Hobbit part 1 crash.
We watched the 3D HFR version and after 10-15 it crashed. Took them about 10 minutes to fix it and things started to play from the trailers again. A year later the same thing happened with part 2. ![]() |

At least the smell of farts are short lived. People rarely fart multiple times in a movie theater because people will complain about it. The fools I speak of talking and/or texting often lasts throughout the movie. Sadly, people are often afraid to complain about this. |

When I went to see the original Shrek, the projector broke right during the Hallelujah sequence, lights came on, a member of staff came in and told us we'd have to wait 15 minutes until they got it back working again.
Watching Toy Story 3 in the cinema, some kid was somehow allowed in with a balloon, which they then let go... it went up towards the projector and blocked half the screen for a good 5 minutes. In general, going to see blockbusters (in particular Marvel films) are often unbearable - the amount of loud geeks cheering and/or ranting is embarrassing. It happens every time I go to my local cinema. And, one time during the final Harry Potter film - a big chav was starting to get rowdy when people started shushing him, he then stood up, turned round to the audience and shouted "Harry Potter is a ****in' gay boi anyway!" and walked off. Made me laugh, but kind of killed the mood. Last edited by 88thCrazy; 08-21-2014 at 12:33 PM. |

As for audiences making noises, I'm pretty picky about that so I avoid going to a movie within its first week of release to make sure the theater isn't packed. The most recent specific example was during Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes when someone felt the need to clap whenever Caesar did something awesome. Just... why? |

I worked for a movie theater for ten years (seven as a manager) and I've seen pretty much every disturbance imaginable. Towards the end of my ten years, one problem that was growing was morons smoking those e-cigarettes in the theater. I had to kick out quite a few people for smoking those. They would always think they had some right to do it, but it still causes a disturbance whether it's real smoke or not.

The most recent experience was when I was watching the Fault in Our Stars.
This was so ridiculous that it was actually somewhat entertaining. There was this teenage girl about 5 rows in front of me decided to "document" her entire experience on social media ![]() She would take pictures of the screen and numerous(lost count) selfie(?) of her watching the movie. At one time she took her shoes off and put her feet on the top of chair in front of her and took picture of that ![]() ![]() I really don't understand social media these days ![]() ![]() But the worst experience by far was when I was watching the Great Gatsby. There was this woman who would have regular conversation with her friends during the movie.(and not about the movie either) And she wasn't whispering either. She actually spoke louder in order to talk over the movie sound. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

All of these posts are reminding me of why I rarely go to see films in the theater these days. Back in the 200x's, I literally used to go 2-3 times a week to see films in the theater. Now, it's 1-2 times a year. The fact that I have a great home video system now has a lot to do with this, but I also don't like having to deal with unruly patrons, who are a big turn-off. Seeing films in the theater is too expensive these days to have to put up with this bu%$##@...
The only film I've seen this year in the theater is Dawn of The Planet of the Apes (twice). Amazing film. |

Fortunately I can't say I've had any bad experiences on the level of some people here. The worst moments I can think of for me are:
1.) Two older women talking loudly throughout a screening of Take Shelter. I should have complained, but instead I just moved to another seat. 2.) Some frustrating loud patrons during a screening of 12 Years a Slave. One woman who would let out a loud "Oh!" every time something bad happened on screen, one couple who occasionally made commentary about what was happening on screen, and one woman who had a bright electronic device. I think it was a medical device, though, so I have to give her a pass as distracting as it was. 3.) The fire alarm going off during a showing of Super 8, right at the half way point of the movie. Everyone was given a free ticket voucher for another showing so it wasn't that big of a deal. All in all, probably annoying patrons are the worst kind of distraction to have at a movie, and fortunately for me it's never been much worse than the Take Shelter screening. |
