BD Player With 2 HDMI Outputs? - Blu-ray Forum

Guys

Im currently thinking of buying a 3D tv, however my current receiver(pioneer elite 03) is not 3D capable.
So Ive been researching 3D ready receivers, in that forum a suggestion was made as a work around to my receiver not being 3D ready.
Add a BD player that has 2 HDMI outputs, the suggestion is from the player out put to the display & the receiver.

My question is are there any quality BD players that have 2 HDMI out puts that would be cost less that the price of a budget 3D ready receiver in the $300 range, I'd hope the BD player would be at least half that cost.

So please any suggestions Im hoping to hear.

BTW if you know, would the mentioned work around be do able?

The Sony BDP-S790 has two HDMI outputs but runs around $250.

EDIT: The Panasonic DMP-BDT330 also has two HDMI outs and runs around $180. The Samsung BD-F7500 runs around $250.

Hey zodiak, why don't you concentrate on your 3D TV first, use your present BDP with optical for now and if you find you still need lossless sound, then look around for a BDP. Reason I'm saying is my buddy who has a nice pj setup uses his PS3 as his player using optical and to be honest I don't get that "need' for lossless. I do prefer DTS-HD but it's far from a killer. He also has a TOL Yamaha and believe that lossy through a high end avr might be better than lossless through an entry level avr. I see this apply to you, going from a nice Elite to a bargain avr is not something I would not even consider.

Just my $0.02

I agree, its hard for me to really want to do this, however I do feel I "need" the lossless audio, thats why my interest was peaked when the suggestion was made to get a 2 HDMI out put player.
Can anyone say if that will work?
setup as I understand it:
BDP HDMI #1 output: to display(tv)

It was my understanding that what you are looking to do with the 2 HDMI outs is entirely doable and one of the reasons to have 2 HDMI outputs on a player... that said I haven't ever done it myself so it is only what I believe I've read in the past. Have you downloaded a manual for one of the players above and checked out if the manual indicates you can do it?

It's one of the main reasons for having 2 HDMI outputs. It definitely does work. I'm not certain on all models but you can even assign what you need on the outputs, where the second can just be audio, either bitstream or internal decoding without any video.

The Sony is well received, really good reviews. I'm sure the Panasonic's are great, though I thought only the 500 had 2 outs, but if the 330 was recommended, it has to have 2. If you don't mind used, you might want to see if you can get an Oppo BDP-93 at a reasonable cost.

I dont and would consider that option.

I started to think some more on this 2 HDMI approach and the thought occured can I acheive the same effect if I was to use a HDMI splitter with my current BD player?
If so is there a particular splitter I need to consider for the 3D factor or not.

Unfortunately a splitter will not work as it will revert to the lowest possible settings, meaning since your avr doesn't pass-through 3D and your TV doesn't do 5.1, you will end up with 2D 2.0. So no go.

The Sony also has the advantage of SACD, which Panny doesn't. SACD is alive and well and is real good (and multichannel on some) if you're into music.

I'm happy your not considering changing your Elite though, I believe that would of been a mistake, it would of been a downgrade and is the heart of your HT.

Yep, that's the main point for the two HDMI outputs and each of those players allows you to send one directly to the TV and the other to the AVR so you don't have to have a 3D-ready receiver.

You'll usually only find the dual HDMI outputs on the players that are toward or at the top of a manufacturer's blu-ray player line. As Pentatonic has mentioned the Panasonic DMP-BDT500 also has dual HDMI outputs but it's closer to $350.

Personally, I would also recommend the Sony based on past experience and their continued support for firmware updates.

I also have the same receiver as you. I just got a 1 in 2 out HDMI splitter from Monoprice and will let you know how it works. I was going from PS3 to receiver with optical but can't seem to get any sound out of AVR. Picture is great with Panasonic 3D glasses and JVC X35 projector

I bought the Samsung BDF6700 last month for $149 from Amazon as I needed 2 HDMI outs (1 to the projector for 3D, 1 to my receiver for audio).

I have two HDMI outs on my BDP.
The Panasonic DMP BDT500. However, it's an older model these days and I don't know if they even sell it anymore.
I used it with my legacy receiver before I upgraded because it, too, wasn't 3d capable.
However, I still like the option; I do direct video out to my TV and direct audio to the receiver. Still helpful.

As for going the $300 route for a receiver... that disturbs me but to each their own haha.
