Thumbs up The price on this steelbook was too good to be true!

To counter the "Maybe I paid too much for this steelbook," I thought maybe we could start a thread about your steelbook purchases that were snagged at an unbelievably low rate. A steelbook that's valued higher than you want to pay and then *BAM* a listing on eBay or Amazon appears that seems too good to be true that pushes you over to finally buy it.

I've been wanting the HDZeta How to Train Your Dragon 3D steelbook for quite some time. Prices never seem to budge from $80 and up. I stumbled upon an eBay listing with a Buy it Now price of $39.99 and $4.00 shipping. After (rapidly) reading the description, I bought it. It arrived in sealed/mint condition last Thursday. I sold the 3D disc on eBay for $12, stuck my HtTYD2 disc in there, and added an adhesive disc hub on the left in anticipation for the third movie's disc. Mind you, my copy didn't have the slip, slip box, or extras (other than the numbered card), but I didn't care. The extras-less copies were still a minimum of $70 on eBay around the same time I bought this copy. After it was all said and done, it cost me $32.00!

So how about you? What are some of your best "too good to be true" steelbook deals?

I like this glass half full approach. Most of my deals are amarays or collector's editions. Tough to get good deals on steels.

My best deals are probably Nova's Captain America Winter Soldier full slip for $40, Kimchi's Snowpiercer for $40, Kimchi's Rush lenti for $30 and best of all, Kimchi's Infernal Affairs lenti for $28.

Domestically, my best deals were probably $30 for Best Buy's Winter Soldier steel and $19 for Divergent. Neither are great deals if you were able to get them day 1, but I bought these recently and they're sold out. After selling the digital copies, they'll cost me even less.

I was able to snag The Wrestler PA full slip from a member for $25, by far the best deal I've gotten on any of my steels, as it is a gorgeous release!

Not bought by me sadly because I was too late, but I recently saw a MM exclusive Thor sell on a local second hand site for 15 euro.

Sure hope a member here got it.

I thought this thread would be like when Zavvi miss priced a bunch of disney steels then cancelled them all. That was certainly too good to be true.

I found the JP Batman Begins & DK opened, but mint for $100 on eBay. It was a pleasant find since I'd traded away my "wurple" KR Batman Begins and DK a week earlier.

I thought I would inject a little positivity since collecting should be fun and full of surprises. Amongst the bad experiences and the ridiculousness of scalpers, there are the rare gems that are briefly possessed by even rarer good individuals.

eBay. I don't mind being the eBay bottom feeder every now and then. I think Kazz has scored some cheap ones this way too?

Haha no favors. Hardly anybody gives favors in this hobby. All these are steels that I wouldn't typically wouldn't pay full price for so they made it into my collection because they were undervalued.

Well, considering I think I'm only up to about 80 steels (a bottom feeder collection by most standards...) and I had to pay full price or more for most of them, I still thing the general rule is eBay is full of profiteers. I only have ~4 deals listed here, I got gouged on a lot of others.

Not really too good to be true...but I got Kimchidvd's The Pianist full slip + bonus slip for $45 shipped. Which is basically original price, but I purchased it long after it was sold out.

Well, you are one of the few examples that kept me from saying "nobody gives favors in this hobby". There's a handful of others too. I know you've been very willing to do solid by the members here.
