USA Tintin and the Mystery of the Golden Fleece / Tintin and the Blue Oranges (1961-1964)

Kino will be releasing a double-feature of Tintin live-action French films from the 60's titled Tintin and the Mystery of the Golden Fleece (1961) and Tintin and the Blue Oranges (1964) on Blu-ray on May 23rd July 4th.. The Blu-ray will come with a slipcover in its first pressing.

Quote:
Welcome to the charming and colorful world of Tintin! Hergé’s classic comic book characters leap to the silver screen in two spirited adventures starring the intrepid boy-reporter and his faithful dog Snowy. In Tintin’s first-ever live-action adaptation, Tintin and the Mystery of the Golden Fleece, Captain Haddock sets sail to Istanbul, accompanied by our cow-licked hero and his cohorts. There they collect a strange bounty from the late Captain Paparanic: a rusty old ship called the Golden Fleece. But the real treasure lies in a chest under the sea, as they discover a map with an “X” on it—marking the spot of Paparanic’s gold. For his next escapade, Tintin and the Blue Oranges, Tintin tries to crack the riddle of an oddly hued citrus that can be grown in the desert—and possibly solve world hunger.
Trailers (couldn't find one with English subs for the first, but you get the idea. Looks very faithful to the comic)

Cool. I never knew they had them. I was going through old S-VHS tapes and found the old 90's or early 2000's cartoon and was wondering where they were on BD.

Finally. I found out about these 2 movies back around 1980, there was a couple of brothers I knew and they had one or two books that were photo novels of these 2 movies. It was written in french so I couldn't read it but I was able to look at it and figure out the story. I bought the cartoon series on DVD and hope they bring that out in bluray.

I've seen Golden Fleece on the BFI DVD from 2010. It's a fun movie, with a lot more of the Tintin spirit than the Spielberg movie. Sure, the prosthetics/make-up for Haddock's nose and beard are not exactly realistic but the entire movie has such a playful vibe that it's all taken in stride.

Golden Fleece was a damn good movie, redolent with the Tintin spirit.

Apparently, Herge visited the set of the film, and when he met Jean-Pierre Talbot, the actor that plays Tintin, he immediately nodded and said, "Yes, that's him."

Strange that it doesn't carry over the existing English dub for the first one.

For those who didn't know.. (I didn't, though it was kinda obvious) this Kino Lorber release DOES have the recent restoration (touted as 4K somehow in french press but it's apparently 2K as the title card states..) released in 2018 (and then in 2024 in separate BDs).. the french releases don't have any English, but they are probably better encoded (32 mb/s against 26 mb/s, and we know how Kino works..).. but I suppose if you don't mind the technobabble, the Kino Lorber is not as bad.. and has English from the start and the French release doesn't at all.
