Australia The 'Burbs - October 1, 2014

Umbrella Entertainment is coming to the party with another classic. According to Screen Print they've got The 'Burbs scheduled for October 1.

A good alternative to the upcoming Arrow release. Hopefully based on the same transfer. We'll likely miss out on the special features of the Arrow release though.

Excellent news, I do hope it's not based on the stretched German transfer, however.

Now whether or not to cancel my Arrow order is the question...

Thanks for creating the thread Atexp mate. I posted it's upcoming release in the local release schedule thread earlier in the night, and was going to create a thread for it when I woke up this morning. Like you pointed out, the only question is now is this the same transfer as what Arrow are putting out.

^ Still probably going to be cheaper to buy locally though.

Yep. Most Umbrella releases start their life with retail price between 16.98 and 23.98 at JB Hifi. Obviously there are some exceptions (like why the hell does The Horseman go for $38 when I can buy it for $8AUD from Umbrella). At $23.98 it would be cheaper then importing (given 0.99GBP added for shipping)

I'll stick with Arrow. I love the film so I'll want the extras.
Maybe some will get ported over to Umbrella...

No sign of this movie being released in New Zealand in the near future

Looks like I will have to import it instead.

If this is indeed the German transfer you should keep well away. Not only is it a much lesser transfer than the Arrow release but the image is stretched horizontally and looks atrocious.

I quickly checked it out last night, the Arrow disc destroys it objectively. Subjectively if you prefer less grain, and higher contrast then you might like this release better.

So the Aussie Blu is not the Arrow? Thanks.

No it's definitely not.

I remember Atexp posted up a link to Umbrellas FB page months ago where this asked, and it was stated that it wasn't going to be.

Yeah, they confirmed it wasn't the remaster. They didn't state what one was used but being that the only other one released is the German one it's very likely that's the master Umbrella got their hands on.

A shame as I like supporting local companies when I can but for a favourite of mine an inferior product is a no go.

There's some interesting comparison screenshots with the Arrow Blu-ray here, but it still shows the AU release to be "squashed".
