Default Four Times That Night (1971)

Quote:
Kino Lorber have confirmed that they are planning to release on Blu-ray director Mario Bava's film Four Times that Night (1971), starring Daniela Giordano, Brett Halsey, Dick Randall, Pascale Petit, Brigitte Skay, Valeria Sabel, and Michael Hinz. The release will be available for purchase on June 5.

Synopsis: What happened last night in Tina's apartment? Did she with Gianni willingly, or was shed? And what was that other couple doing in the apartment with them? Tina (Daniela Giordano), Gianni (Brett Halsey), Tina's mother, and Tina's peeping tom concierge all have differing opinions in this "shagadelic" sex farce from horror maestro Mario Bava!

A spicy Italian variation on the multi-perspective storyline of Akira Kurosawa's Rashomon, Four Times That Night was lensed by cinematographer Antonio Rinaldi (Danger: Diabolik, Planet of the Vampires). NEW 2K RESTORATION.

I'm surprised this thread hasn't gotten more attention, as this is one of the few remaining Bavas to hit Blu. Anyone know if Arrow is working on this as well?

I would bet Arrow are and they will have a preferable release.

Still, good news, and hopefully the English track has been found ( or is cribbed from VHS , ect ).
Bava lovingly photographs some beautiful women in this decidedly non PC sex comedy.

It may just be a new scan of the same Leone provided source we got on DVD, fingers crossed.
The new restoration played on UK TV a few days ago, maybe someone caught it?
Italian with English subs is the way to go, but I still want the English track ( and yes, it's god awful ).

I'm guessing this is not coming on June 5th as planned and has been delayed.

The English track was never lost -- licensor Alfredo Leone actually requested it be kept off releases since the dubbing was so poor. Hopefully he'll let it slide with any Blus -- it may be garbage, but it's still historically valuable.

Glad for the thread bump, as I totally missed this the first time it was announced. Hopefully not delayed for too long.

The Kino rep just said:

"It's delayed indefinitely due to unforeseen issues."

Hopefully somebody can sort it out before too long.

I watched this last night and while it could have been a better transfer, I was very pleased at how much better it looked over the old dvd's.

However, when listening to the English track, I REALLY don't understand why they just didn't revert to the Italian audio for those two scenes with the "doctor" near the end. Blue Underground, Arrow, Synapse, etc. have all spliced Italian audio into Italian movies where there is no English audio. It was very jarring to all of a sudden hear the audio completely drop out and then have Tim Lucas' voice explaining why there is no audio. His voice was louder than the film's audio and it gave me a fright thinking someone had stepped into my living room unnoticed.

Hopefully Arrow will be releasing this in the UK with a better constructed package.

The English track reverts to commentary in the middle of it? WTH That makes it completely void of worth.

If the English version is missing those scenes and that is why there is no audio, they should just have a shorter English cut on the disc without those scenes.

Yup. And then another 60 seconds or so of silence until the English audio kicks back in.

I’ve never heard anything like that being done before. That is bizarre - who thought that was a good idea? As jarring as it can be for a English dub to revert to Italian with subtitles for additional scenes, having a commentary start in suddenly is far worse.

.
Um, WOW. That is some poor decision making on Kino's part.

I wish they'd recall this disc, even though it is apparently intentional. That's about the worst thing I've ever heard of for audio on a disc. I would rather have silence with subtitled dialogue.

Is there not Italian audio with subtitles on it? Am I forced to watch with English audio?
