Default Help with Playstation 3 and my new LG 47" 1080p Model 47LC7DF

Help with Playstation 3 and my new LG 47" 1080p Model 47LC7DF

I just purchased a LG 47" 1080p Model 47LC7DF and a PS3 40 gig. It is connected with a HDMI cable and I have been experiencing some problems. When I set-up the PS3 to HDMI the menu starts to flicker and flash like crazy. Now when I use the old component cables all is fine. Im not sure also in the 1080p function is being outputted from the PS3 to the LG--ie it may be reverting to a lower resolution. Now when I the blue ray disc actually plays on the PP3 is works pretty darn well and look cool, but not sure if its truely the 1080p I paid for. Is there a problem with ps3 and 1080p output with this TV, or could it just be the cable as the person from Sony Sugested. Basically it is likley to be the cable, the PS3 or the TV?

Thanks

Turn off PS3 (standby mode red light)
Hook up the HDMI cable only
Hold down the power button for 5 seconds until you hear the 2nd beep.
This should reset the video settings and put you into the auto detect menu.

The Sony customer service woman had me do this and it wasnt successful. The screen is fine at first, then it goes to the area to detect the HDMI and and enable it. I select the option and the screen goes black for a moment, then it starts flashing it appears after the HDMi cable has been reckionized. When the blu - ray begins to play no more flashing--its strange. Again the sont rep said she thinks its the cable--just wondering if the experts here think its the likely cause as well.

I tried a new cable and the problem persists. Sony customer service said to try a Sont cable as my NYKO one isnt working. Can thi sbe the problem. Does anyone out there have a PS3 attached to a LG LCD--what cable do you use.

Doubt it's the cable then... maybe a bad HDMI port on either the TV or the PS3. Does the TV have more than one port? You could try plugging to a different one. It really sounds like a setting on the TV side though.

Ya I have 3 ports and all perfrom the same. LG said they will send out a service tech to test the HDMi ports. I also changed the HDMI imput for "game" and the teh menu cleared up, but it still flickered in that intermediate area between the PS3 menu and when the Blue ray starts. The Sony tech explained that this may happen as the TV thinks it about to play a game and doesnt realize its a blu-ray until the movie begins plays. So problem improved greatly but not completely solved. Sony teach also suggested a sony hdmi cable which I wil also try.

Have you upgraded the firmware on your PS3 recently? Might be hdmi 1.3 issue. Might ask LG if TV is hdmi 1.3 compliant. Also might ask about upgrading firmware for TV.

I have heard this as well thank you. I just purchased the PS3 and it is at 1.3. Will downloading the latest version be helpful. Also this may be a really dumb question but how do I upgrade firmware on my TV.

I've got my PS3 connected to an LG 42" HD Plasma, it works fine. That picture is absolutely spot on. It might be an idea to unplug everything and start again from scratch with your set-up. its frustrating as hell when you cant work out what is causing a problem. turn the HDMI lead round, so the end thats in the PS3 is in the tv and vice versa, as silly as it seems sometimes daft things like that work a treat!

Yes I am going to get the specific Sony HDMi cable this evening and hopefully that will solve it. Its so strange the screen only flashes for those few seconds in between when you select to play the disc and the menu pops up. I know its pretty minor but I'm just afraid that that the flashing will start at other times as well. My TV is new just manufactured in October, how could it be a firmware update--im just trying a common thing--hooking up a PS3 with a HDMi cable. Steve do you use the Sony HDMi cable?

Do update your PS3 firmware. There have been at least a couple updates since October.

I will take back this NYKO cable and swap it for the Sony one and then update the firmware---these are the two answers I have been getting from several people--hopefully this will do the trick.

No, i bought a regular dvd player about 18 months back that had up-scaling capabilites via HDMI. I had to buy the lead on its own, cost me £50 at the time - same lead is on £20 now. The sony lead is about £20 so quality should be the same.
