I watched the 160 episode on netflix. I think there are over 1100 episodes in all, and I will probably never get the $400 DVD set. Anyway, can someone who is familiar with the show, let me know the fate of Barnibas. Does he get found out? Does the family reject him if he does, and does he die, and if so, how? Thanks!

(Since Barney doesn't show up until the 200's.) If you got all the way to the final "time-travel" season, that was it for the series--The first half of the series covers most of the other plots, with Naomi as the black-sheep secret of the family. The "House of Dark Shadows" theatrical tried to wrap up Barney's story, but that's not on Blu-ray yet...At least, not till October. ![]() |

The collinwood site does not go to the final season. I actually saw House of Dark Shadows on Itunes. It was super rushed, and made Barnibas out to be completely evil, as opposed to the series where, he is a likable villan. |

Dark Shadows before Barnabas was pretty good, but....it didn't REALLY start to pick up until they wrote him in. I'm also stoked they're finally releasing the 2 original films on DVD/BD.

Yeah, that's my problem with the Netflix streaming of Dark Shadows. While it isn't critical to Barnabas storyline, I feel that you need the earlier episodes to get an idea what some of the players motivation is, but I'm the kid that ran home from school everyday to watch this show. Once I get through my other BD's and streaming I'll start from episode one with Netflix DVD and keep going until the end. Hopefully by then the price will drop on the boxed sets. As much as I liked that show I just can't pay that much for a series.

I honestly couldn't see the set dropping below $400.

Given that it is 12 seasons I can understand your reasoning on that. I'd love it, I just can't justify it because I'm a cheap bastard

I thought there might be some interest in the original series from the 60s now that there's talk of a new TV reboot.
Right now it's included in Amazon Prime, and it does include the roughly 200 episodes before Barnabas Collins was introduced. The PQ is surprisingly good for a TV soap that's over 50 years old. Only a handful of episodes survive in kinescope format, most are the original master tapes. It's endearingly goofy at times, most of the actors keep flubbing their lines, and yet there are some pretty effective moments, especially if you like the supernatural hocus-pocus kind of stuff. |
