Default ZAAT (1971) - Feb 21 2012

Zaat Blu-ray

Zaat Blu-ray Review

http://filmjax.blogspot.com/2011/05/...ates-40th.html

Quote:
Barton Films, Inc. is proud to announce the long awaited home video release of their 1971 cult theatrical feature film ZAAT which was filmed in and around Jacksonville, Florida. According to Ed Tucker, a spokesperson for Barton Films, this release represents the culmination of over tens years of dedication on the part of the filmmakers and fans to assemble the best elements possible in one package. The forthcoming release will be on the Cultrare Video label and available in both standard DVD and high definition Blu-Ray editions, newly mastered from the original negative. Cultrare is a subsidiary of Synergy Entertainment which has a standing reputation for making high demand cult classics available to fans in versions they can be proud of.

ZAAT, which will be one of the flagship titles of the newly launched Cultrare label, will be no exception. According to Tucker, “we have located an outstanding selection of original trailers, television spots, rare promotional materials, and never before seen behind the scenes photos to enhance this edition – we even have some extremely rare outtakes we managed to unearth”.

Also unique to this release will be a feature length commentary moderated by Tucker and including the film’s director, Don Barton, along with writer / special effects coordinator Ron Kivet, and actor Paul Galloway who played the local Sheriff. “The commentary is not to be missed” said Tucker, “in addition to some great stories about the production and distribution of the film, you get some hilarious insights from Paul that were constantly breaking us up!”

ZAAT, which is currently celebrating forty years of entertaining monster movie fans as of 2011, had a promising initial release from Clark Distributors of Jacksonville beginning in 1971 but has been difficult to locate since then. This did not, however, stop die-hard fans from searching for it and now their search is over! In recent years the film has enjoyed many successful revival screenings, was featured as an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000, and has aired on Turner Classic Movies but this release on Cultrare Video, anticipated for some time this summer, represents the first time the film will be available nationwide on home video.
The newest update on Facebook puts the release in December 2011. A sequel has also been announced, called Darn Monster!

Highlights from the Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode:

Give it up, Ed. If Harold "Manos" Warren was alive today, he'd do the same, and just hang out for a beer with that Troll 2 dentist.

(And besides, the MST3K episode was only funny for the guys' take on the whole opening Simon Bar-Sinister voiceovers:

I just saw the MST3K episode of Manos: The Hands of Fate. Comparing whatever that was to Troll 2 is completely unfair. Troll 2 stands on it's own, without wisecracks from a guy and two robots. Besides the "killing" of Torgo near the end, Manos would be torture without commentary.

I just saw this title just now on the list of pre-orders, and wondered "what is Zaat?!" After reading the synopsis, I decided it'll be a glorious blind-buy!

Default For what it's worth...

I saw it for the first & only time at the drive-in movie when I was 10, so as a 10-year old I thought it was great!

I noticed this as well. Went to the Zaat webstore and saw in their description of the item that the Blu-ray appears to be limited to 100 pieces. However, I could be wrong about this and perhaps they are referring to the bonus autographed photo. The description wasn't 100% clear.

I think you're right about the limited edition referring to the photo.

It's back on Amazon now for $15.99, just listed as 'Temporarily Out of Stock'. I think before it was saying 'Product Unavailable'.

Hello everyone. What a treat to have a movie like this released on blu-ray. I ordered from the Zaat site and from Amazon. I'm a collector and would like to keep the limited edtion autograph in mint condition. I'll use the Amazon copy for viewing. Again I'm just a collector. I have no interest in making money from other film lovers. Share and share alike.

I just emailed Amazon asking why it has been delayed for such a long time (2-5 Weeks) Hopefully I receive a response shortly. I was very excited to receive Zaat this week, major disappointment that I wont be able to watch it this weekend as I originally planned.
