Default Anyone had to deal with maggots before?

About two weeks ago this fat, brownish worm appeared on my wall with a black end. I assumed it was a maggot and so I killed it and then turned my room upside down to find the source. I was unable to locate a source and I eventually just forgot all about it.

But then I found another one of these things. Same, stumpy, brown wormy thing with a black end - I'm assuming these are maggots very soon to hatching going by a brief Google search but I can't be sure. I'm honestly not sure of a lot of things.

Where are they coming from, for a start? As far as I'm aware there is no food left in my room nor do I get a lot of flies in here, I literally turned my room upside down and with no luck. What is confusing me also is why they are turning up so far apart from one another?

I put filthy maggots in their place with my fists...oh wait, you mean real maggots.

I've never encountered maggots before, but it sounds like you only found two of them at separate times in separate places, so it doesn't sound like an infestation to me. From what I've read, maggots would only appear around rotting garbage and foodstuffs. Is it likely that you could have tracked them in by accident from outside? Also, are you sure they weren't caterpillars or something?

In the meantime, it may not hurt to clean like hell.

EDIT:
Now I'm curious, so I did a quick search and found these tips for stopping/preventing maggot infestation. You could see if these tips will help:

I found two in the same room but opposite sides of the room and weeks apart. I am in the loft, so maybe they are slipping through gaps in my window frame or something? I was wondering if maybe they were moth larvae rather than maggots as I hear they are very similar but I've not had any moths in here for ages much like flies so who knows.

Definitely gonna turn the room upside down again and will check out the link thanks.

Aren't maggots what private school children are called in England? I saw a British show once and the "Head Master" said to the class "come along maggots"

if you start to find more and more, call an exterminator and have your placed "bombed" (with a bub bomb, not an actual bomb).

It's possible birds have taken food up onto your roof and it's rotted, or something has died up there and has gone the same way. Double-check that they are maggots and not something else but you probably need someone to look into it if it happens again.

Nurse them and see if they turn into flies.

Stick one in a bag and take it to your local fishing/bait shop, or ask an angler.

Looking at the maggot pupas, it was the closest thing to what I have seen and yet different in subtle ways too.

No. That sounds like the headmaster was riffing on the way an army sergeant would call his soldiers 'maggots'.

Anyway, maggots are gross.

Do you have moths? I hate these little bastards, they ruin all your dry food (cereal, pancake mix, rice, etc...) and then a bunch of worms pop out all over the place! Good luck man...

I did find a couple of dead moths while I poked around the room, could they be the source?

Occasionally, in the local night life when some of the said maggots have had too much to drink.
