Blu-ray Grand Duke

Dickie Duvet just posted in the German forum that he has got a 3D blu of this. I have not seen anything anywhere about a 3D version of this movie. What's going on, can anyone tell me? Is it just a crappy German auto conversion? The weird thing is i googled it and i can't find anything on a 3D release whatsoever.

Thanks for the link, to my knowledge this movie has received no official 3D conversion so i can only assume it's a crappy German auto convert job, ie the kind of thing any 3D TV can do automatically.
Hopefully i'm wrong on this though. Does anyone have any info? |

Dickie Duvet said the 3D was really good but then he refused to answer my further questions about it regarding it being a German auto convert. |

Let's see though, none of us have heard anything about a 3D conversion anywhere. This was not released theatrically in 3D in China like other movies such as Noah, Transcendence and Fast and Furious 7. Last edited by levcore; 09-07-2015 at 05:58 PM. |

There's no chance this is on 2 discs - if it was then I may hold out hope for the conversion, but these German autoconversions are always 2D+3D on the same disc, I have plenty of them. Even the 3D double bills like Ghost Shark / Mega Python vs Gatoroid and the first two Sharknados are all on one disc with their 2D versions.
Most of them are at the very bottom of my viewing pile, but sometimes I just want to switch my brain off and watch supercrappy Asylum/SyFy films - even bad 3D makes those better... In my defence, I do wait for them to drop to just a couple of quid but I don't know why I keep buying them, I guess I must be an eternal optimist - the ones I've watched all invariably have NO POP EVER and either: 1. have everything pushed back into the screen, giving the illusion of depth. These generally come off the best and I suspect is what TTTDS looks like. 2. just have the top two thirds pushed back into the screen, with the bottom third kept forward, unchanged for pretty much the whole film (I like to call this the "roller" effect, as you can see credits etc roll over the bend, it also has the side effect of often making people look fat) 3. look wrong, with the autoconverter incorrectly layering things like lights. Locked Down has a good example of this, with bright orange jumpsuits looking like they are floating over the characters wearing them. It's blatantly cut as well, another common risk with German releases. My favourite so far is Pusher, which falls into category 1 (and has a fantastic score by Orbital) and I did like what I saw of Sharknado 2 but at the same time I'm sometimes impressed by my TV's autoconverter - it's all a trick on my brain combined with wishful thinking. The fact is, though the odd shot may sometimes come off here and there, I haven't seen one of these autoconversions yet that I'd actually recommend anyone watch just for the 3D... AFAIK the mention of 2-disc set comes from a listing for a 3D version which included the 1976 version as well - that seems to no longer be the case though there is a 4-disc steelbook of the two films in 2D Blu and DVD at http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00W1TXVUO
