I'm not happy that this awful label has gotten their hands on one of my most wanted films.
https://www.facebook.com/PlatinumCul...35203223188521 The only thing blind Mark sees are visions of a sinister figure who soon manifests in reality and bedazzles his sister. The pregnancy that follows doesn't bode well for anyone. Not another Rosemary's Baby clone, this instead generates something wholly unique from the basic premise. It's relentlessly downbeat with grim imagery and implications. Also contains one of the all-time great shock moments. Anyone whose seen it knows exactly what I reference. Venice has never felt more dreary, and Pino Donaggio's somber score only intensifies the permeating sense of unease. You feel for Mark. On top of his blindness leaving him more vulnerable to the evil, his resentful (but most attractive) sister belittles him every chance she gets, seeing him as a burden weighing her down. I've always been surprised this one doesn't get more fanfare, but Arrow or Mondo Macabro needs to rescue it and give it the treatment it so richly deserves. |
