Default Disney Diamond Editions Question

Can anyone fill me in on something. Are there plans to re-release the Platinum Edition blu-rays as Diamonds at some point?

Yup. They're just the next phase of the Platinum titles.

So no point in picking up the Platinums before they go back in vault?

Agreed, it will be a while before the titles that are going back in the vault are re-released as diamond editions, if ever. Some DVD releases that got sent "to the vault" never were re-released such as The Lion King and Aladdin.

Sleeping Beauty is already "in the vault," Amazon and other retailers are just selling what they have left, they will receive no further shipment and the price will not drop, it will only go up after there are only third party options. So while $30 may seem like a lot now, its only going to go up.

I'm surprised they haven't tried to get the Little Mermaid out sooner... since they released Ponyo last year... the Little Mermaid might have sold really well alongside that and perhaps boosted the sales of both.

I also keep hoping that we will see both Lion King movies at the same time... but it sure doesn't look like it.

The Little Mermaid will probably be released at the same time as something like Mulan or Pocahontas. Never seen the second Lion King movie, not sure I will.

I see no point in waiting three to four years just to get a copy with a different banner title on the artwork and perhaps a few extras if any.

Yeah, how much better can these get? The VQ is stellar and it's 70 year old footage in many cases. I can't see the re-release doing anything but providing a new box.

Yeah... but I kind of feel the same about Lion King as I do Aladdin.

There were 3 Aladdin movies too... but I only liked the first and last one

IF they made a 3-pack Blu-ray of all 3... I would buy that... otherwise I really only want the first and last of both series... the middle movies were just not good enough for me to worry about, so I forget to mention them sometimes.

How come Aladdin isn't listed as a Diamond Edition? I thought that all 13 films in the Platinum Edition line were getting re-released as Diamond Edition Blu-Rays?

Thanks for the list. Why would they re release blus instead of working on other films that HAVEN'T been released yet. I can't imagine the transfer is going to be any different, more than likely the same transfer, and probably more extras or something.

I hear you... but look at this very forum..

There have been people in a panic about Sleeping Beauty, Pinnochio, and a few others that are going back in the vault... and that's now... so 7 years from now, there will be a bunch of people who missed it this time + lots of new young kids who weren't born yet OR weren't old enough to bug their parents...

That's the secret to the 7 year recycle...

Most of us probably will not NEED to re-buy these Blu-rays again next cycle because it will be hard to top the current release presentation... but there will be a bunch more new people who want those movies more than the older stuff that we are still waiting for.

I expect there will be some movies, unfortunately, that they never get around to releasing on Blu... I'm sure there are still a bunch that never made DVD for that matter.

You and me both. I was going to ask what the difference was but I think I've pieced it together.

I think it's STUPID to re-relase SLEEPING BEAUTY and PINNOCHIO as Diamond editions. I mean, there's no way to IMPROOVE on it. And what MORE could they POSSIBLE have that hasn't been released or SEEN before by now?

Just Disney using the vault to get people to keep buying their movies, whether we agree with the tactic or not doesn't matter, it works for them.

Disney have always done this. It used to be theatrical re-releases every 7 years, now it's with home media. As for Aladdin, Disney dropped it from the Gold/Platinum/Diamond range after poor sales for it's last release. Shame as it's one of my favourites
