Arrow The Best Deals That Got Away

Every collector knows the sting of a great deal that gets away. Whether you put off buying that new limited run LP for just a little too long or you spotted that elusive album you've been searching years for right as someone else grabs it off the shelf, we all have our war stories. Here's your chance to share your tale and vent some steam with people who know just what you're going through.

* * * *

Here's a few of mine. There's nowhere to get vinyl where I live, so I'm left scouring the internet. Consequently, I keep an extensive wishlist on Discogs.com which sends me email updates frequently with items from my list that are on the marketplace. One day, this email shows that some guy's selling Regina Spektor's Begin to Hope LP for $40. Since this release fetches $100+ on eBay, and it's my favorite of Spektor's albums, I pounced. Or, I would have, but clicking on the link brought me to a page with the message "Sorry, the item you're looking for is not available in our marketplace."

Just this week, a similar thing happened with The Like's Release Me which was being sold for 60 bones. This was the first time I'd actually seen a copy for sale. Guess someone else was on the lookout cause I received the same message after clicking on it.

The last one was the worst, because it wasn't sold within minutes of being listed. I had ample time to order it, but kept putting it off. It was Satyricon's Now, Diabolical for $25. Since I didn't nab it when I had the chance, I'll have to pay at least twice that price (and likely more) to get it. Now I'm hoping for a reissue.

* * * *

I'm sure you guys have better stories, so jump in.

probably the worst for me was that a store here had Prince's LotusFlow3r on vinyl for $30 in 2009, I figured it would be around in print for awhile so I saved getting it for a later date, next time I went to the store it was gone and now the album fetches ridiculous vinyl prices... like copies over $1000 on Amazon (Amazon itself has it listed for $31, but it's been out of stock for years, pretty safe it isn't coming back). And I am both a Prince fan and thought that was one of his better latter day albums too

Yeah, a similar thing has happened to me with Paloma Faith's albums. Supplies can run out faster than one would think. It looks like that Prince album is now available on Amazon for $206. Hey, at least it's not $1000.

One of my local stores has had a copy of that Prince album in their bins priced at $34.99 for years. I should go see if they still have it!
