This is a nice surprise. After the negative reaction to Every Thing Will Be Fine, I thought maybe Wenders had given up on 3D altogether. Glad to see he's still interested.

I think there's a great possibility we get to see it, at least on a German Blu-ray 3D, in about a year. Since it's playing at Cannes, it's probably a decent film although they are biased toward French productions.

Have there been any German 3D Blu-ray releases within the last year or two?

Plenty. Exclusive releases for Happy Family 2, Monster Run, Monster Hunter, and Iron Mask. Dragon Rider as well, if that counts as 3D. Also one of the only countries to release Boss Baby: Family Business and Wonders of the Sea.

Compared to most countries, Germany has stellar support for physical media, Blu-ray 3D, and their domestic filmmakers (and Wim Wenders is one their sacred cows). The only thing they don't always support is English subtitles.
Their hasn't been a lot of new German 3D content to release lately. You could make an argument about retailing The Amazing Maurice flat, but it's another garbage-bin conversion like Dragon Rider. |

I'm also excited that Wenders has a new cinematographer. Hopefully he likes wider interaxials than Benoit Debie.

Belga Films is Belgian, hence the name, but they sell their product in all Benelux countries (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg) because they are economically allied. No connection to German physical media though.

Every Thing Will Be Fine got forced subs and was released only in Germany and Italy while The Beautiful Days of Aranjuez didn't get any English subs and again only got a limited European release. It's almost like they wanted nobody to see these films properly. I expect it will be the same with this one. |

Aranjuez is barely a narrative feature and more of an experimental piece of drama. They basically went out and shot 90 minutes of two actors talking about men/women/sex/life in a pretty backyard garden in flat-ish 3D. I finally got some quality English subs to sync to it but still haven't had the urge to watch it all the way through. Not sure I ever will.

Not a huge Wim Wenders fan, but will definitely be getting Anselm if any English-friendly version materializes (which seems unlikely from the knowledgeable comments here). His films definitely lean into dialog.
