I'm assuming this is the upcoming Mack Sennett Collection Vol. 1 but they've changed the title... right?
Flicker Alley has now posted a list of the 50 included films (on the Flicker Alley product info page) Quote:

Pardon my ignorance, but is this one packed with comedies?
Are there Charlie Chaplin shorts on it as well? I have never heard of him ![]() Any help would be appreciated. ![]() I might order it together with the Charlie Chaplin collection. |

Recreation is a Chaplin film, presumably featured here because superior elements have been found since the Keystone DVD set was released (where Recreation looked pretty terrible). The Thief Catcher isn't a Chaplin film, but he does have a minor role.
Also, a number of the films feature Charlie's big brother, Syd Chaplin. |

Is it save to blind-buy this set in terms of content, picture and audio quality?
I really love Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, and Harold LLoyd, but the picture quality of Buster Keaton's ( https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Buste...Blu-ray/23434/ ) is really bad at many points, so I am seriously disappointed in that, and don't want another disaster like this in my collection. I've already pre-ordered both, the Sennett and Chaplin collections through Flicker Alley, but I could still cancel and wait for the reviews. I don't care for steelbooks much at all anyways. |

Flicker Alley is the safest of the safe bets. Everything they do is the best quality possible, and they release things no one else would. Their Nanook of the North disk is absolutely amazing. So are the Cinerama disks. Other companies, I think twice about paying the premium price, but not Flicker Alley.
The Keaton shorts are different than the Chaplin Mutuals. Chaplin had a LOT of money to work with and it all showed on the screen. The Keystone comedies are a little rougher, but oh man! The treasures in that set... I can't wait to see an intact version of W C Fields. Even Criterion messed those up. Last edited by bigshot; 08-10-2014 at 05:19 AM. |

Like many Kino releases, those were just taken "as-is". I'm sure if someone actually restored and/or reconstructed them - there is plenty of room for improvement. Supposedly some of the more severely damaged shorts on the blu-ray, were in much better condition on other DVD releases (not from Kino). So that sort of implies there was at least some potential for alternate sources to clean up the most damaged sections. |
