Default Lamberto Bava's Monster Shark surfaces!

Wait - Monster Shark AKA Devilfish was announced coming to Blu and I was not informed? FAIL! Found this over on Bloody Disgusting:

Quote:
The success of Jaws in 1975 meant that countless imitators would be coming in its wake, and that remains as true today as it did decades ago. One of those imitators was the Italian production Monster Shark (aka Devil Fish), released in 1984 and directed by Lamberto Bava (Demons). Guess what? It’s coming to Blu-ray this Summer!

Code Red, in association with Kino Lorber, will be releasing Monster Shark on July 3. The release boasts a brand new high-definition scan with extensive color correction.

Special Features:

Audio commentary with star Michael Sopkiw
In Monster Shark…

“Scientists attempting to avert ecological disaster run afoul of a monstrous sea creature, a genetically-created hybrid of an octopus and a prehistoric proto-shark.”

Sadly, no trailer, so here's one for the collection:

^^ that trailer is a riot

"It's not a shark ... it's a 'monster' shark!" is what I was expecting the whole line of dialogue to be (LOL)

Looks amazing. I’ll probably get it as a so-bad-it’s-good movie. The trailer alone me made lol.

I feel like I've been waiting for this release for almost two years. I think Bill initially announced it shortly after his first big batch of Italian blus (After the Fall of NY, Iron Master, Blast Fighter and Hands of Steel). I will always watch Lamberto's films, he is definitely not his father but they always have this low budget charm that I enjoy. Delirium is by far my favorite film of his that I've seen.

Why hasn't someone upgraded Macabre yet?

I haven't seen much of his work, but if its as good as Demons and Demons 2, I will be thrilled. I love those two flicks!

I'd say you should definitely check out Delirium, it is a late period giallo with some strange imagery and the main actress has some large assets that are a big draw. After that check out Blast Fighter, it's Lamberto's Rambo rip-off film, it starts out a little slow but the finale is well worth the price of admission.

This trailer isn't being included??? WTF? It would instantly double the value of the release. One of the funniest things I've ever seen. Not including this insane trailer is an EPIC FAIL.

I can't confirm as I havent' actually seen the film but Fabio Frizzi composed the score to the film, which I have heard and the music at the begininng of the trailer sounds very similar.

Blastfighter has been on my "Someday soon" list, as soon as I get a chance, I was buying it. Now I might have to bump it up to the "Get it, dumbass!" list.

Fabio Frizzi - Shark rosso nell'oceano – Seq. 11 - YouTube

Best Horror Soundtrack - Devil Fish (1984) - YouTube
That explains the catchy 80s vibe, love his Fulci scores.

does anyone know what cut will there here? Is that the European one or the US one? I asked to Kino on their FB page and they don't know - prompting me to ask Code Red. Which I did and had no reply.

As for the quality of the movie. When I interviewed Lamberto Bava years ago, he said it was the least Bavaesque of his movies. As he accepted to replace the previous director who abandoned the shoot (apparently Sergio Martino), and had to shoot the whole movie in 4 weeks. The already built monster was a disaster. So his team had to work out to build it all over again so he could move a bit. This explains why only two tentacles are seen during the who le movie, among other ridiculously funny things in the movie.

The movie is ridiculous, but I love it

Agreed. That or A BLADE IN THE DARK.

Though UK got a release of the latter. But it's a noise riddled botch job.

I think that outside of the ending, MACABRE is his best. Because of the ending, I prefer BLADE overall.

Sopkiw still looks good and fit. Tarantino should cast him in a movie. I always get a kick out of seeing old retired actors pop up in modern movies. Ernest Borgnine in Gattaca and Rod Taylor in Inglorious Bastards were among my favorites.
