Quick question about NTSC - Blu-ray Forum

Hi, I currently buy my Blu-rays from Amazon UK and any films not released here, I can normally pick up on Region B in France, Germany, Australia, etc..
Recently, I have seen that a few USA Blu-rays are region free and I plan on buying them but I noticed that the format states NTSC. Does this mean they won’t work on my region B pal Blu-ray player?

I thought the NTSC thing was only a issue with DVD but I’m not sure. I know this might sound dumb but please bare in mind I have never bought from USA before.

Help would be appreciated.

There is no NTSC nor PAL for Blu Ray. Unless it’s 1080i, the main film should play perfectly fine.

Yeah it’s Amazon being numb using a generic DVD listing. However features might be a problem, in this case most might be NTSC, but I had purchased a James Dean UK box set a while back and the extras played fine on my PS3.

I think the "NTSC" listing could mean it's 1080i60 (example. concerts) as opposed to film's 1080p24, or Europe's 1080i50 (like some UK Who BDs etc)

Unless they refer to the supplements (some not in HD) or DVD included.

In any case if your BD player/HDTV can play 1080i60 format (In Europe I think equipment is more multiformat, than in the US where often they don't play 1080i50 or 576i) you probably can watch those if the disc is region free

It’s the film ‘Thoroughbreds’ so just a standard film?

I have played US movies, Japanese Only Yesterday and Final Fantasy 7 AC, and UK versions of African Cats and Kamikaze Girls on my 2009 US Panny that hasn't had a firmware update since 2011. No trouble (except age related laser wear).

You're fairly safe watching any 60hz material on modern TVs and Blu-ray players available in the UK, they all pretty much handle it as standard. Also since gaming is now 60 fps as standard, TVs have to be able to handle modern consoles for instance.

More of a problem in the US, where 50hz capable TVs and players are small proportion.

TVs in PAL territory have been NTSC-friendly since the 1990s.
