Default Malcolm (1986) - Umbrella Entertainment (Sunburn Screens) - 2021

Quote:
The Last Wave will be the only Sunburnt Screens title released before the end of the year, but we’ll be following it up in January with the blu-ray debut of SUNDAY TOO FAR AWAY, starring Jack Thomson. Aside from featuring the NFSA restoration of the film, we’re lining up some great extras to accompany it. Beyond that, expect to see Rolf De Heer’s DINGO (featuring the 4K restoration that recently premiered at MIFF online this year) and new restorations of Nadia Tass’ MALCOLM and THE BIG STEEL and Igor Auzins’ WE OF THE NEVER NEVER. As with THE LAST WAVE, we’re also working on extras to accompany these all-new restorations, and you can expect to hear more announcements on that front closer to release.

Great news, been waiting for Malcolm and The Big Steal!

I'd love to see the underrated Mr Reliable, also by Tass and starring Colin Friels, get a release too.

I love Mr. Reliable! Umbrella put it out on DVD years ago and it was horrible.

And it is a major improvement over the dvd, will pick up both Malcolm and TBS when they come out sometime this year.

Possibly coming on August 4. Both EzyDVD and Sanity are listing it as a DVD but the RRP is a bit high for a DVD re-issue so I'm hoping it's just an error.

I remember i was about 8yrs old, it was a weeknight, and BBC2 nightime movie. This came on and found a special place in my heart. Wonderful fun movie and a great score by the penguin cafe orchestra.

I always thought of of this as a kids movie but watching it a few months back I was surprised that there’s a sex scene and the crim calls his missus a slut and a ***** among other things. To be honest, they’d never be able to make a movie like this today. It’s pretty rough for a PG movie.

I still have the DVD from 2001. One of Umbrella's first year releases almost 20 years ago. Can't believe its taken this long to get a Blu-ray release for this true Australian classic and one of my favourite movies. Surprised this movie only has a mono audio track on both the original 2001 DVD and the 2021 blu-ray release.

Got my copy the other day and watched it last night. A real blast from the past and a beautiful transfer. Well worth a look.

How so? The film was mixed and released in mono, so both releases are accurate representations of its theatrical presentation. It's not the kind of film that really needs a faux multichannel upmix just for the sake of it.

Had issues getting it to work in my player, had to get another copy from JB and even wrote to Umbrella for a replacement copy, but it was the same issue on all 3 copies. I did, in the end, get it to work.

My player's a cheap Teac region-free one, and it only had those issues with this particular release. My other blurays (Umbrella and otherwise) all worked.

It's a 12 in the UK. 15 originally in the cinema, as the 12 certificate didn't exist at the time.

My copy is in transit to me.
