Default 'Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock' - Channing Tatum's Dorectorial Debut

Quote:
At one time, Smashed and The Spectacular Now director James Ponsoldt was going to adapt Matthew Quick's young adult novel Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock. However, the project has switched hands and ended up in a surprising place as THR has learned that Channing Tatum will make his directorial debut with the film that follows the title character, a young man who heads out on his birthday with a gun in his backpack and a plan to kill his former best friend. However, he won't be alone because his producing partner Reid Carolin will co-direct the adaptation in addition to producing the film with Tatum as well.

What makes this story interesting is that before Peacock goes through with his planned murder, followed by his own suicide, he spends his day saying goodbye to the four people he cares about the most: his Humphrey Bogart--obsessed next-door neighbor, Walt; his classmate Baback, a violin virtuoso; Lauren, the Christian homeschooler he has a crush on; and Herr Silverman, who teaches the high school's class on the Holocaust. That's certainly a bold choice for a directorial debut, and Tatum will also star in the film as a teacher who intervenes in his plan (likely that final aforementioned character).

But a writer needs to be found to adapt the book first, so stay tuned for updates on development. Keep in mind that Tatum is also lined up to star and co-direct an adaptation of The Son, the latest Norwegian crime thriller by Jo Nesbo. That project isn't set up at a studio yet, but clearly Tatum is ready to make his directorial debut with Reid Carolin sometime soon, it's all a matter of which project gets him behind the camera first. And considering he's bound to be pretty busy with an X-Men spin-off that will have him playing Gambit and a sequel to 22 Jump Street, who knows when these projects will come together.

Agh, dangit. If a mod could fix the typo in "directorial" that'd be great.

Who knows? Maybe he's better behind the camera. You never know until you give someone a chance.

If he's better at directing than his performances in Foxcatcher, this'll be one bloody good movie!

I'm a big fan of Tatum at this point, and I don't feel terribly guilty about that. So I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this.
