BAAHUBALI - The Conclusion

Looks like there will be no Telugu Bluray for the biggest hit of all time in India. The studio and Rajamouli don't have time to worry about releasing Telugu Bluray for the viewers to have best experience at home.

Hoping for a 16:9 Blu-ray for Baahubali 2, that covers the whole screen with no black bars on top and bottom . This is possible because the cinematographer confirmed that the IMAX format was shown in 16:9 (read the quote below). The source is definitely available so any smart home video company authoring the blu-ray should make use of it and pick the larger aspect ratio (16:9).

"All the Indian films that we see are in the aspect ratio of 1:2.35 (Cinemascope). When we were shooting, we were framing each shot for both Cinemascope and IMAX format (16:9). When people will watch this film on IMAX, they will not have to compromise on the image size. The frame will not be cut from either sides. It’s a wider frame than Cinemascope. This means that if you watch it on IMAX, then you will see twenty percent more of the film’s information in each frame."

BAAHUBALI - The Beginning

While there is no official Telugu Blu-ray for Baahubali: The Beginning, you could order the German Blu-ray that has Indian runtime of 2hr 38min which has Telugu audio but no English subtitles.



Current price is 21 Euros on Amazon Germany which reduces a few Euros + shipping for purchases from outside Germany.
This is not available for sale on Amazon USA or any other website outside Germany.

There are no English subtitles. There are German subtitles which can be turned off.

Not many people know the true aspect ratio of the movie Baahubali so I created this thread to get this to everyone's attention in order to get the Blu-ray released with full screen 1.78:1 aspect ratio. We never got to see the true aspect ratio in theaters, so they must release the Blu-ray with full screen 1.78:1 aspect ratio

The real movie screenshots obtained were from the trailer and all had black bars and you can clearly see how much is missed in the first screenshot comparison link below. All that CGI hard work from the VFX team, including the money spent will be wasted if the audience never get a chance to see it fully in full screen aspect ratio.

It's not just the trailer, even the movie when played in theaters is widescreen (2.35:1) aspect ratio. If they release the Blu-ray with 1.78:1 aspect ratio, this could be the first Telugu Blu-ray that is truly full screen covering the whole screen corner to corner and with no black bars.

The entire movie is shot with Arri Alexa XT and an aspect ratio of 1.78.1, but for any reason if it's not possible to have the entire 100% movie with the aspect ratio 1.78:1, then they should just make the Blu-ray that alters its ratio from 2.35:1 to 1.78:1 where available. Hollywood IMAX edition Blu-rays change their aspect ratio like this. Most Hollywood popular movies are releasing with 1.78:1 ratio anyway.

Also when Baahubali 2 is released where ever the theater supports it, Rajamouli should consider releasing the movie in the larger aspect ratio so we can see more of every scene. In USA most theaters support the larger screens. They will need to have the larger ratio for screens that support it and the normal widescreen ratio for the other screens. This is how Hollywood sends digitally or reels, they have different aspect ratios playing based on the theater.
