Default Verizon FiOS On Demand has joined UltraViolet?

I was going through the On Demand section on My Verizon FiOS TV service & I noticed a bunch of the new movie releases have an UltraViolet logo under them.

The Verizon FiOS On Demand website also shows movies with a UV logo: https://www.verizon.com/Ondemand/Movies/All

Has this been officially announced yet?

Not sure if it's been announced but it was allowing me to link my UV account. Didn't go through the whole process as I want to see how it work from the DVR unit first.

Okay so I checked it out and it looks like it's part of OnDemand features there is a MyLibrary. Here is the FAQS

I did link and it worked after 2 tries but can't watch anything right now. It may take a bit of time to work as it's only been a few minutes. Movies are there, I just can't watch them.

Update #3 - okay after about 3 minutes it's letting me watch now.

Where are you linking your UV on that link? I don't see the option.

EDIT: Never mind, I see it now. I wasn't logged into Verizon at first.

I noticed the UV link option in myverizon the other day. Did not even bother linking as the ondemand picture quality isn't the greatest (my opinion, ymmv), I'd rather watch on vudu.

I linked mine. The interface sucks. It makes Cinemanow look like Vudu in comparison

Verizon's On Demand picture quality is wretched. It makes VUDU look like reference-caliber Blu-rays in comparison.

More than half of my UV titles cannot be played through FIOS, including some Sony/Columbia titles, some Warner titles, some Universal titles, and all my 20th Century Fox and Paramount titles.

It's not all that different from B&N Nook Video service. It's awesome that my UV movies show up on my Nook HD directly (with HD download/streaming available), but about half of them show up as "unsupported". There doesn't even seem to be a rhyme or reason behind it, even breaking up franchises like Star Trek or Halloween (only about half of each franchise is available, and in no particular order, such as films 1, 3-5, and 7 will be available while 2, 6 and 8 are "unsupported"). And don't get me started on the disaster of a "customer service" they have in terms of UV support. It took me about 5 months from purchasing the device to get any movies to show at all.

Anyway, rant aside, it is nice to see more UV support from different retailers, even if not every retailer will be as good as Vudu.

This article from Monday is the first article to finally mention that Verizon FiOS on Demand has joined UltraViolet.

Quote:
UltraViolet Says It Will Continue To Grow, Even Without Disney And Amazon

by David Lieberman December 15, 2014 5:56pm

People can’t see ultraviolet light, and many also have overlooked some recent developments at the entertainment industry’s digital locker service called UltraViolet. The Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem operation, launched in late 2011, today spotlighted a few signs of progress — including the fact that more than 20 million U.S. consumers now have UltraViolet accounts, enabling them to stream videos that they also buy on DVDs and Blu-ray discs or electronic sellthrough. That’s up from 15 million this time last year.

DECE says the user base should continue to grow, even though sales of physical discs have been declining:
  • HBO recently joined as content provider, adding series including Game Of Thrones, though some of its shows were available earlier via Warner Bros. UltaViolet now has 13 studios including virtually every major movie and TV producer except Disney and MGM. In February Disney introduced an alternative service, Disney Movies Anywhere, in partnership with Apple’s iTunes.
  • UltraViolet is about to be offered in Japan, following the recent addition of Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. In addition to the U.S., the service is also available in the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
  • And 17 retailers now support UltraViolet, though the list still doesn’t include e-retail giants Amazon and Google. Verizon FiOS, UK’s Tesco (Blinkbox) and Sainsbury’s are among the recent additions.

The organization says it is encouraged to see some theaters and studios bundle UltraViolet rights with movie tickets for releases including Transformers: Age Of Extinction, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and Dolphin Tale 2. In addition, consumer awareness and satisfaction have improved significantly since last year. About 44% of consumers either have heard of UltraViolet or recognized the logo, up from 35% last year, The NPD Group reported this month. And satisfaction with the service — which many people initially found to be quirky and complicated — is up to 91% from 83%.

and the UltraViolet website has finally been updated today to list Verizon FiOS on Demand as UV retailer.

So this is somewhat annoying. Linked my Verizon account with my ultraviolet account and it shows most of my movies, but about half are not playable for some reason. I did check the Verizon UV support site and it said that more movies will be available over time. Not sure what the delay is for some of these.

It looks like Verizon only has agreements with Sony, Warner, and Universal. There aren't any Fox, Paramount, or Lionsgate movies with UV status that I could find.

Well that doesn't make a lot of sense. I can't watch the following Warner UV movies using Fios.
Edge of Tomorrow
Jersey Boys
Blended
Godzilla

That's just to name a few.
I think Spider-Man 2 was another one I couldn't watch which is Sony.
