Hey guys thinking about picking up a WII for the kids this Christmas, they have a gamecube right now and I am thinking about gettin them a Wii instead becasue of the lack of games coming out on it.
They are 7 yrs old and I don't want to get them the PS3 because of the adult theme games that they have. What are your toughts on this and hopefully I can get some insights from other parents out there. Thanks in advance. |

There are plenty of fun games on the Wii that are definitely child-friendly. At the moment, I cannot say the same for PlayStation 3. There are probably a few there but I don't know which ones those are. The PlayStation 3, I believe, also has parental control but I have never used that function.
Now, back to the Wii. The Wii has a lot of stimulating games geared towards a wide audience that does not have violent themes. Such games would be like Nights, Cooking Mama, Big Brain Academy, etc. The Wii is one of the hottest items this season, too (so your kid can brag about it to all their friends and be happy with you, too ^^). Plus you don't have to throw your gamecube games or controllers out, either. They are 100% compatible. |

The Wii is awesome. I have both a PS3 and a Wii. I own many more games for the Wii than the PS3 and play it quite often. Nintendo makes fun, quality products and you won't go wrong with the Wii. Grab a Wii and Mario Galaxy. You and your kids should love it.
Just don't ask me to tell you where to find one. ![]() |

My advice is good luck getting a Wii, the fad is still in full force here and probably won't burn out till summer when Sony/MS price drops finally put enough squeeze on Nintendo to stop choking their supply
Since "they" are 7, twins? Wii has fine and appropriate games for their age, just be prepared to pick up a new console if there's at least 1 boy when they hit 10 or so ![]() ![]() |

I prefer to spend the 250 and try and pick the Wii up than the PS3 knowing that I can get kid friendly games for them. They have a Sony tube in there room so no they won't break daddy tv with the controller.I did find a GI Joe head in my DVD player a few years back. |

Depending on where you live, you may or may not be able to get one, but if you do, let me offer some advice:
As soon as you unbox it, put in a game and play it for at least an hour. If it hangs or freezes, bring it back for exchange IMMEDIATELY. Don't assume it's one little hitch and won't happen again. The newest Wii's being shipped were rushed through production, and the amount of faulty machines has quadrupled from a year ago. The one I bought earlier this month was faulty, and I was LUCKY to find one at the same store within the 14 day window you can exchange without a replacement plan. Given the fact that they are now being rushed through production, and given the fact that firmware upgrades can wreak havoc on your machine, GET A REPLACEMENT PLAN! Also, pick up Mario Galaxy, Mario Strikers, and Mario/Sonic at the Olympic Games for the kids. You might also want to get a Wii Points cards incase they want any good ol' NES, SNES, N64, or Genesis games. If you want games for yourself, RE: Umbrella Chronicles, Metroid Prime 3, and Zelda: Twilight Princess are all great games. And if your kids will want to play at the same time, several of those games are multiplayer/co-op, so get at least 1 extra wiimote and nunchuk. Good Luck! I have both a Wii and PS3. I bought the Wii first. The kids and wife all love it. I liked it right away but grew bored of it. I'm a pretty serious video gamer. I wouild say that the Wii is best for the casual player and the PS3 is more for a hardcore gamer.

The Wii is perfect for your twins. It should be a lot of fun to play this with them.
I would get Mario Galaxy. Just make sure that you phone the stores before you try to purchase. The big box stores have been selling out like crazy and it is a real hassle going trial and error to find one. Walmart and Costco would be the best places, because you can pretty much return anything to them, should something happen with the unit (no extended warranty needed). |

I have a Wii upstairs in our gameroom for our kids. They love it. Mario Galaxy just came in the mail yesterday...going under the tree tonight.
It really is a fun system...kind of expensive when you tally in 4 Wimotes+Nunchucks...that part really hurt, IMO.. |

It comes with only one wiimote and nunchuck. You probably need to buy a second wiimote and nunchuck for $50. Many places are selling bundles that come with a second wiimote and nunchuck and a game. Buy a wii. I bought one because it is easy to install a mod chip like the wiikey.

You can buy extra Wiimotes and nunchucks on ebay for cheap. You just have to look. Plus not many people are looking for extras anyways so you're chances of getting a great deal on the extra remotes and chucks are great

Wii has a ton of kid-friendly games.
I would recommend: Super Mario Galaxy (every Wii owner should buy this game, it is brilliant) The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (assuming they haven't already got the GameCube version) Zak & Wiki Super Paper Mario Depending on what they're into, you can add things like Mercury Meltdown Revolution (puzzler), Geometry Wars: Galaxies (arcade shooter), Rayman Raving Rabbids (minigame madness), Wario Ware : Smooth Moves (cool but quirky) to this list. I would NOT recommend buying Mario and Sonic at the Olympics. I wouldn't wish that game on anyone. It's getting terrible reviews, and rightly so. --- PS3 does have a number of kid-friendly titles (Ratchet and Clank Future : Tools of Destruction undoubtedly being the best of the bunch), but it's not kid-centric the way the Wii is. |
