United Kingdom Amazon UK Free Delivery minimum spend now £20

Amazon.co.uk now requires a minimum spend of £20 to get free super saver delivery.
No more random buys of a couple £5/£6 Blu-rays to get it over £10 for me then. Plus pre-order prices tend to be £12-£13 each this will no longer be eligible for free delivery.

Bye-Bye Amazon.co.uk!

If they think I'm going to spend £17 so I can get free postage on a £3 DVD then they can bugger off!

Amazon UK Free Delivery minimum spend now £20
In Germany (Amazon DE) it's also roughly £20 (29 Euro). They changed it in August 2014.

Without warning? Crap. However, seems that with their multibuy titles you can still get away with Super Saver Delivery - in the 3 for £17 offer, you just have to make sure the titles you pick go over £20 (I just checked).

Still, that's really annoying. Means when the Eureka sales come along, you'll have to order loads. Either that, or pre-order stuff to make your order over £20 and then cancel the pre-orders when the stuff you actually want is dispatched - that often works (I've done it recently).

Another tactic to push Amazon Prime onto everyone, wouldn't be so bad if the stuff actually arrived next day though!

After they completely removed Free Shipping outside of UK, I've been buying stuff on Amazon a lot less. Now I mostly buy from Ebay and other places. But hey they gotta pay for all their random investments (game consoles, Twitch, TV pilots no one watches) somehow!!!

It always surprises me to hear people have trouble receiving next day.

I live in the Outer Hebrides yet still receive next day delivery apart from in adverse weather when we don't get a mail plane.

I guess this is mainly down to Amazon having no choice but to use Royal Mail out here though!

Still, a poor show IMO, especially when prices are pretty similar to their competitors a lot of the time who all offer free postage. At least a lot of the marketplace sellers tend to match Amazon so you can look out for that.

One could interpret this as Amazon deciding to (ab)use it's market dominance, now most online retailers have gone down the pan and Ebay is out of fashion.

If that's the case, might we start to see price hikes?

I think Amazon are shooting themselves in the foot with this decision and I agree with Dickieduvet

Big sales and items with big discounts will no doubt be locked to be bought by Prime members only.. just like how it is now in the US and Canada.

Some items are already "exclusively for prime members" on the UK site, eg some nappies.

Well I just put an order for less than £20 through and didn't have to pay extra for postage, so this doesn't look to be true. Anyone know of stipulations other than having Prime that might affect it?

I guess it hasn't went into effect yet, as I just added a £10 blu-ray to the basket and was able to select free delivery at checkout;

All this is going to do is further decrease my Amazon orders. When they changed to £10 minimum, I've ordering a lot less than before. I'll often find myself about to buy, remember the delivery charge and then hold off on the order. Then see a better deal via marketplace sellers ebay, etc. By slowing the sale, they lost it.
In comparison to the Amazon marketplace sellers, their delivery charge is £1.26 vs £1.49 at Amazon...
EDIT: And £2.03 for games, £2.75 for books.
EDIT2: Wait, is it just for DVDs and Blu-rays? Had a look at a few book & game listings that don't mention £20 minimum.

No, the £20 limit was definitely there earlier. Seems it's been lifted again and gone back to £10, so just in case it goes up again I've placed a load of pre-orders just in case (and can obviously cancel them later on if necessary).
