United Kingdom Dynasties II (BBC Earth) David Attenborough - Nov 28, 2022

Surprised there didn't seem to be a thread for this release yet. Did anyone watch the series, or has anyone picked up this release and have any comments on it?

I guess it's time for another UK import order, I still have to pick up Green Planet and Frozen Planet II, so I'm long overdue.

I wondered why too, Original Dynasties is on 4K disc. Had the option been there, I'd have paid the extra

BBC didn't put The Mating Game on 4K UHD either I bought the blu-ray even though iPlayer has it in 2160p

so with regards to The Mating Game, it is too much effort to cobble together a menu and slap it on a disc, shake my head in disbelief?

Yeah I'm guessing BBC didn't want to spend money on a HDR grade. As far as I'm aware the iPlayer is 4k SDR, but still looks better than the blu-ray resolution wise, but the blu-ray has better compression and encoding.

As much as I don't blame anyone here. If the BBC want to make more money then they have to spend more. As much as it might upset some, if they ditched DVD, they would then have the money to pay for an HDR grade to be done.

I find it hard to believe that having David Attenborough's name on the cover does not sell some copies of anything

Can't think of anything 4k is better suited to than nature/wildlife. We'll get Dynasties II on 4k I'm certain but when? They've missed the Christmas window. They got there with Frozen Planet II.

They buggered up Frozen Planet II UHD discs by it ONLY including the the international version, where the episodes have changed opening credits and do not include the behind-the-scenes part of the original broadcasts, on the 4K discs (312:52 - 24fps), and the original BBC version on the regular Blu-ray discs (344:25 - 25fps) which do include the behind-the-scenes.

That has been how all the BBC Earth 4K UHD discs have been presented. The US and UK get identical 24 fps episodes with no BTS segments attached, probably because the BTS segments are not necessarily native 4K.

Same with Mammals. They have a new show called Asia starting soon and I really hope that gets a 4K release. Seems to be only the shows with "Planet" in the title that get one.

Default annoyed

I'm still annoyed this didn't get a 4k release. There are pretty much none of their programs I would not buy in 4k. I stream a lot of content but nature docs I always pick up a disc to watch the first time. I'm getting the feeling this is happening with the Asia show as well

Edit: Im realizing in the US this didn't even get a bluray. What the heck??

Could anyone confirm if this's Region-free, or at least Region-A compatible, please & thank you?
I have the first series, but it doesn't look like this or The Mating Game will be released here. (seen both on BBC-Earth though)

Mammels and Asia have been released here. I blind-bought the former, since it was on sale and not airing on TV at the time.
I'm currently watching the latter via PVR'ed episodes from BBC-Earth, but will buy the Blu-ray eventually.
I also still need to get Planet Earth III, and check my new copy of The Green Planet since it arrived with scratched discs.

Dynasties that you show the cover image of, in my experience is not locked
