United Kingdom Creepy (2016)

I've seen Pulse, Cure and now Creepy. Creepy is my favorite. Nice transfer and sound. Lots of scenes with cicadas in the rear channel. I liked the fact that this one didn't have any kind of science fiction or paranormal angle. it was pure psychological horror. Are there any more films by this director that I've missed?

After seeing Cure, I'm gonna be getting both Creepy and Pulse for sure. Glad to hear this one is also great. In terms of your question, Tokyo Sonata is the other Kurosawa film in the Masters of Cinema collection, but don't think it's a thriller film by any means.

Creepy is my favourite too.

Eureka also have Journey To The Shore, which I wasn’t such a big fan of.

Obviously there's a fair number of Kurosawa films out there that you've missed, but if you're talkig about BD releases then the answer would be no: Tokyo Sonata and Journey to the Shore are probably the only two films reasily available on BD that you may not have watched.

You're looking at DVD releases for the rest of his oeuvre, but many of said releases have gone OOP. Seeing as you rate Creepy so highly I would recommend Doppelganger and Serpent's Path/Eyes of the Spider.

I also recommend Charisma, Seance, Loft, Retribution, Bright Future. Charisma is a very strange films but plays like an unofficial follow-up of sorts to Cure. Seance/Loft/Retribution play like distant cousins of Pulse. You could argue that all four films exist within the same universe.

Are those all the same director? I like the movies primarily for the stylish direction, particularly of the actors.

Yes, he's been making films for over 40yrs now so that only cuts through the surface, but mst of his earlier works are hard to get hold of with eng subs. Cure made him a household name in Japan, he was extremely popular and prolific from around 1996-2005.

Penance, his mini-series, was released on blu-ray in the U.S. and is in stock at Amazon. A remarkable work that allowed him to really explore his cinematic chops, detailing the effect of a child's murder on various individuals. Highly recommended.

Real, a virtual reality sci- fi film, is also on blu-ray. I had no trouble getting o e from Yes Asia. Different from the Cure Pulse Creepy films but I think very entertaining. Both of these are in the database on this site.

Agree about the DVD recommendations. I think Retribution is probably most like Cure and Creepy, but Charisma is my favorite. I would also add Guard from Underground, an earlier killer on the loose work that had a U.S. DVD.

Unfortunately his two most recent seems to not have blu-rays anywhere: Before We Vanish, a superior body snatched science fiction story (although this apparently has a U.S. DVD) and Daguerrotype a ghost story shot in France. I got both from Amazon as HD streams.

I think my favorite director. He constantly does things with images that takes my breath away.

Yes I would love to check out that penance, great that it's out on Bluray as so few Jdoramas actually find any real distribution here in the west.

Not seen Real or Journey to the Shore yet, but Guard from the Underground is fun. I would put that in with Sweet Home under the "fun western-horror style homages" subcategory of his work. Unfortunately you can't and probably never will find Sweet Home on DVD in any legal capacity.

I'm sure his latest films will find their way to BD eventually, I remain optimistic about that.

I liked Pulse & so far Cure is my favorite of his films that I've seen. I watched Creepy a few days ago & I just couldn't into as much. It started off really good but as it went on I was loosing interest in it.

Sad news, Yűko Takeuchi from Creepy and the Ring died today at the age of 40 (apparently suicide). To make things even more creepy, i just watched Creepy this afternoon without knowing about what happened.

Just wanted to add: this is sad news. I just watched Creepy a couple of weeks ago. She was a very talented actor.
