Default Marvel Cinematic Universe comics

Hello all,

As a big fan of Marvel's Cinematic Universe, I was wondering which comics I should read corresponding to the films and the future of the films. Chronological order or publication order would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Are you talking about tie-ins or regular Marvel comics about the characters?

Hard to say.

Even if a movie takes on a name of a story arc from the comics doesn't mean that one will have anything in common with the other.

Prime example: Age of Ultron.

Just a year or two ago Marvel comics had a "big event" called Age of Ultron. This arc had absolutely nothing in common with the recent movie. Nothing.

I would assume that Cap 3 (civil war) will have some similarities to the comic but overall there will be some major differences.

There are some great runs that the movies haven't touched... I would just focus on a character or two you enjoy and pick up some trades. That would be the best.

An event like Civil War had around 100 issues including the tie ins and main series.

As the poster above said, the movies have usually pulled parts from different story lines and added many of their own elements to fit them into the larger Marvel cinematic universe. For Civil War, you could probably read the main series and the spider-man tie ins to get a high level idea of what is probably going to happen in the upcoming film.

As for Thor:Ragnarok, there hasn't been a lot of information released about the plot yet but it revolve around this storyline:

And here is a possible storyline about the upcoming Infinity War films. This will give you a better idea of why the Infinity Gauntlet is important and Thanos's motives:

Better to think of the comics and the films as different versions of the same characters and events; almost like alternate realities! It's true to say Marvel has moved to making the comic universe a little closer to the film world but I guess that's to help new readers who might be picking up a comic after seeing one of the films.

Many of the film plots are based on some of the big events from the comics world, so if you picked up The Winter Solider, it will differ from the film but hopefully be enjoyable in its own right.
