I don’t even rent movies so this news is completely meaningless and very fear monger like along with being click bait. Stop making click bait forums they’re awful Star Fury it’s just fear mongering not to mention just plain annoying.

Oh wait I can just buy them physically on Blu-Ray, DVD, or 4K UHD, or heck even watch them on a streaming service. I'll probably still buy the titles physically though. I cannot believe there is a thread about Redbox shutting down.

Doesn't surprise me. Easier to rent it and stream it than return a DVD.

Oh no! An unsustainable business model that the vast majority of today’s consumers don’t want isn’t thriving!! We’ve got to do something!

Redbox was great for rural areas or cities with horrible internet. But Redbox’s fall was more due to how poorly the Chicken Soup company took over Redbox.

Redbox had revenue sharing with many of the businesses the kiosks were installed. Then as the money dwindled during the pandemic, Chicken Soup decided after buying them to stop paying the partners without notice. This behavoir continued with vehicle maintenance, payroll, health insurance. No notice to employees or vendors in an effort to “salvage” the business.

Here is an article that breaks down what happened:

https://www.theverge.com/2024/7/5/24...bankruptcy-why

And this should not be in the Blu-ray main forum by the way. Redbox offered DVD, Blu-ray, 4K, and game rentals. It should be in the technology section.

Not really surprised. I looked at one about a month ago and they had nothing new in it at all, and by new I mean something released in the last 6-12 months.
