Lucas made it pretty clear a while ago that we won't be seeing Star Wars until HD-DVD is dead (he actually said until there is only one format, but I think that's the same thing).

He's letting star wars cool off right now. Sales of the theatrical version on dvd weren't nearly as good as they anticipated. Of course a lot of us know it's because they weren't anamorphic, but it was also in large part to them releasing the trilogy 3 years in a row.

We didn't get the 30th anniversary ultimate package because of the lower sales, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if we don't see Star Wars Blu until the 35th anniversary.

Yep, sounds about right... But there are a couple of things that iht motivate him. We are moving quickly towards digital downloads and he may feel that this is the last opportunity to milk the public with prepackaged media. Don't forget that Star Wars made it to Laserdisc even though its audience was miniscule.

Notice the similarity of these two URLs:

Target works with Amazon so allot of the placeholders are actually one in the same. You will notice if you go to check out on Target.com that you have the option to checkout using Target or Amazon account.

Whats great for Blu at this point is that the Studio that Stars Wars is under... FOX, is Blu exclusive!

Dang, I was about to be happy. When this is finally released I'm buying it on the first day. WB seriously needs to release Batman Begins already

Yep and I was one of them. All three in a box set and cost me £99.99. Unfortunately don't have a laserdisc player anymore as it died!

Upconversion looks fantastic though, I'll have to settle for that for a few years.

And by 35th anniversary edition, I hope you mean from 1977 not from 1985!

Yeah, Star Wars will probably be the LAST major title series to come out AFTER the format war is long done and over with. That's kind of how it was with DVD.

Id love to see it come out on blu! it would be a great step forward for our format. Truth be told, I wouldnt buy it. Im not a star wars fan but it would still be good to have in our arsenal of titles for those "fence sitters."

The real question is, when it IS released which version (of 4-6) will we get. The originals, the special editions, or both? I'd love to see both but if its just one then I'd prefer the original obviously.

Given the uproar he received over the digitally added versions (the South Park episode comes to mind) - one can hope that the version he releases are the original theatrical cuts. Do I really want to see dewbacks?

HAN SHOOTS FIRST.

I'd love to see seamless branching (especially if they find a way to allow people to choose exactly which branches they go to). Imagine being able to see Han shoot first, but still have some of the less intrusive better special effects shots.

Whenever it comes to blu, I'd also expect Digital Yoda to be in episode I. It's been rumoured (possibly confirmed) that they completed all of that a number of years ago, but it's still never made an appearance anywhere

Yeah, didn't even think of that. Sounds like a great idea. I know they did the seamless branching for the limited edition Lord Of The Rings DVDs so you could pick either the original or extended cuts. It didn't have to store the movie twice on the DVD just branching out to the specific extended scenes if needed. Definitely could be possible on for Star Wars on Blu.
