Default 'The Odd Couple' Returning to CBS, Matthew Perry to Star

Matthew Perry To Star In 'The Odd Couple:' CBS Plans New Sitcom Based On Old Classic

Matthew Perry's coming back to the small screen.

The "Friends" alum will star, co-write and executive produce "The Odd Couple," a new multi-camera comedy due out on CBS, according to Deadline. Based on Neil Simon's original rendition of "The Odd Couple," the new show will focus on the same characters, messy Oscar -- played by Perry -- and his neat roommate, Felix.

"The Odd Couple" reboot will be filmed in front of a live audience, just like "Friends." "I think it’s time for me to be in front of a live audience again. I miss that. The search for Felix Ungar is on!" Perry said, according to Deadline.

Perry co-piloted two other shows in his post-"Friends" TV career: ABC's "Mr. Sunshine" and NBC's "Go On." Neither were immediate hits and both were single-camera shows were canceled after one season.

Who do you think should play Felix to Perry's Oscar? Sound off in the comments.

...YOU AND US BOTH!
After untold seasons of 2 Broke Girls and HIMYM, would be nice for sitcoms to learn how to be funny again instead of hammy/nasty, in front of actual human beings who laugh or don't laugh at the jokes.

Hopefully he has better luck this time. Can't seem to shake Chandler even with some decent shows post Friends. Miss Studio 60 most of all Although not going to lie when I read he was Oscar I got a mental image of David Schwimmer as Felix. So I guess there is a part of me that will also always think back to Friends when it comes to him

Matthew Perry's 'Odd Couple' remake gets pilot order

Felix and Oscar took a big step forward to being back in prime-time.
CBS has greenlit a pilot for its The Odd Couple remake starring Matthew Perry. There’s no story details yet, with CBS simply saying the project based on Neil Simon’s Broadway classic about two mismatched roommates — the perfectionist Felix Unger (not yet cast) and lackadaisical Oscar Madison (Perry). There’s previously been a 1965 play version, a 1968 film and a 1970-75 series (starring Jack Klugman and Tony Randall).

The Odd Couple marks Perry’s third attempt in recent years at a new sitcom project, following ABC’s Mr. Sunshine and NBC’s Go On. Unlike those two series, The Odd Couple is a multi-cam (studio audience-style) comedy instead of single-cam, which returns Perry to the Friends format.

The half-hour pilot is written by Perry and Joe Keenan (Frasier, Desperate Housewives) joining a bevvy of other executive producers — Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum, Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman.

I didn't think too highly of The Odd Couple premiere last night. It had some sort of funny parts, but overall it was nothing special. In a lot of ways Matthew Perry seems to be playing the same character he did in Go On, with the two even having the same job. With CBS giving it the post-Big Bang Theory spot I would expect the ratings to be pretty good though so I'd expect it to end up getting renewed.

I didn't know anything about this until seeing part of the premiere last night. I never saw the original show or the stage play, just the films with Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. This version looks fairly interesting, but my main concern is them crassing it up like most sitcoms today. If they can keep it "semi-tasteful" like the movies, I wouldn't mind tuning in; otherwise, no thanks.

Felix is played by Thomas Lennon, who's mostly been a screenwriter and script doctor until now. His biggest credit has been as co-writer of the "Night at the Museum" films.

Ya I noticed that too, that is pretty strange, odd even.
