Never seen the movie, that I can recall (I'm 46), but if it has James Garner in it, I'm def. going to buy this. Add to that, filmed in 65mm, & the cast, storyline, can't wait. lol, my first "real" car was influenced by all the years of watching THE ROCKFORD FILES. Though my car was a '74 Brown Camaro, with four 60's all the way around on the tires (loved those fat boys!), it was close enough to the one he drove as James Rockford.

You know a movie's cool when the camera car is a Ford GT40.... They don't make 'em like this anymore.

If they've improved on the already-terrific HD DVD, then I'll be all over the Blu.

Hopefully they can get some new interviews with Garner! I also like The Rockford Files (and Maverick too)! James Garner is living legend IMO.

Default Grand Prix Memories

Brings back great memories. I saw Grand Prix at the Tokyo Cinerama in June '66, on R&R from Vietnam, during a splendid week in Japan.

Beautiful big Cinerama theater. Grand Prix was in English with Japanese subtitles.

Director John Frankenheimer said of James Garner's handling of the Formula One racer, that had Garner not chosen be a movie star, he could easily have had a great career as a race car driver.

Yay! So happy to see this one is finally getting a release. Makes me hopeful we'll eventually see the '62 Mutiny on the Bounty. (fingers crossed!)

Sweet! I was ecstatic when it was digitally remastered and finally released on DVD in 2006 with all the extras. The DVD quality is great, but have been waiting FOREVER for the Blu-Ray version...this just made my day!

Think I'll pass on this. Not a big racing car fan. Interesting they kept the original poster art work.

They weren't Formula One cars they were mock-ups of Formula 3's but you're right Garner had a huge talent for driving and went on to race in events and pro-ams etc. Amazingly some of the actors were to scared of the cars and some had to be towed around Brian Bedford couldn't even drive.

Like a lot of films this one was a race between a rival Steve McQueen project which fell through but not before the directors footage of Nürburgring had to be handed over to Sturges and McQueen. I wonder if this footage will be included if it hasn't been lost?

What amazes me when I've watched the film on TCM UK is how good the race footage was compared to race coverage at the time. It really looks like another world because of the cinematography and the Super Panavision 70 film.

I highly recommend everyone (that wants it) grab it at $13.99 while they can! I'm betting it will be $14.99 closer to release date.

Garner went on to do most of his own stunt driving, especially in The Rockford Files.

And...ordered!!!

I'm also 46 and I have this on DVD and have seen this movie on HD DVD. It is a masterpiece especially on HD DVD. I think Bluray will top even the HD picture. Superb movie. Can't wait.
