I have noticed that many of the current generation games have no on screen displays such as health and ammo, or the info appears for limited intervals. Is this to help prevent burn in? Anyway, I like the screen being clutter free or having the game provide information to you in other ways. I was hoping people could list some games that do not have a hud at all or just display information briefly.

Yeah, I think burn-in is a pretty large factor in it. But also to give it a more 'lifelike' experience. Which is why some shooter will integrate it into a helmet/screen type hud, if there is info they want to show you. All about realism these days, for a lot of games.

It's not about burnin, it's more about immersiveness and keeping the screen free of clutter
Riddick was one of the first to do it, just a little lifebar and all ammo counters were on the guns. I can't wait to plya the expanded version (buying it for the 3rd time...grrr) |

Yeah, it has nothing to do with burn-in.
Fight Night Round 3 doesn't have a HUD at all, I haven't tried it on the ps3 but on the 360 it's incredibly fun. The one game I'll go back to throughout the year to start playing again. |

HUD-less games are all the rage now because reducing screen clutter improves game immersion.
This has nothing to do with screen burn-in. It is a deliberate game design choice by a large fraction of current game developers. |

Granted LCD does have burn-in problems but not as nearly as quickly as phosphor-based sets. |

I remember King Kong had no HUD. That game didnt even have a target reticule. Everything was indicated in game to let you know what was happening. When you had one shot left in your gun, your character would say "One shot left." And I think the screen would turn red and you would breath heavy to indicate you were low on health. Pretty interesting game.

The two games I've played most recently (Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Shadow of the Colossus) both only show the HUD when needed. SotC's also pretty cool in how it replaces the waypoint marker (Crazy Taxi etc) with a light beam reflected off your sword when raised and pointed in the right direction to your Colossal target.
