United Kingdom FOPP (Shaftsbury Avenue branch)

Guys, if you don't have the 30th Anniversary edition of Blade Runner on blu ray, go to FOPP NOW! They got batch today for all of £10!!! I dunno if they'll have more tomorrow, but it might be worth trying. I couldn't believe it, a tenner for that special boxset. Came with a hologram and everything.

They've also got a nice looking Indiana Jones boxset for 15 quid, but i'm not fussed about that personally.

Thanks matey. I popped in there this morning looking for the Indiana Jones box set, I couldn't see it, they had the set down stairs for £50! But then saw it on the way out. There was a guy there buying two of them, with one left on the shelf (mine!). I think the reason I didn't see it is it's the special edition, looking like an old worn book with tons of extras, including the film cell & grail book & all the other stuff...all for £15!! It's £84 on Amazon. Great stuff

I miss the days when Southampton had not one, but two Fopps. Of course, maybe the fact that we had two is the reason we didn't get to keep either

Your welcome, mate. Glad you managed to get the Indy set.

The Fopp geezer who served me said that they get deals like that every 3 weeks on a Wednesday or Thursday. The earlier you go, the better obviously. I managed the snag the Blade Runner set about 3pm.

Default Best physical shops for buying blurays in the UK

I am writing in this thread because apparently I cant start new threads, atleast not in this part of the forum. Something about privileges.

Im going to be travelling around England and Scotland for a while. Which is the best and biggest physical shops for buying blurays?

I have heard of Fopp. How do you rank the Fopp-stores? Which is best/biggest?

Are there any other shops I dont wanna miss?

Thanks!

Fopps are decent if you can get to them - there's one in Central London (Covent Garden to be specific), two in Glasgow (where the company was founded), one in Edinburgh, and then there are stores in Manchester, Bristol, Oxford, Nottingham and Cambridge if you're going through there.

Otherwise, HMV stores are in almost every city with a high street and often actually have the same prices as Fopp (because HMV actually own Fopp). For example, a lot of Blu-rays in Fopp are £6 as standard, where they're often 5 for £30 in HMV stores making them the same price (but obviously you'd have to buy 5 to get them at that price). Fopp generally have a better range of stock too, and way more discounted offers (Blu-rays/DVDs/LPs/CDs/books sometimes as little as £3 etc).

Thank you! I knew the locations of the Fopp stores, but which of them are the best/biggest one?

My local store in Manchester is large. It always gets in the new stock, and has a lot of films on offer. I rarely buy things online, I just shop there.

I've only been to the London and Bristol branches. The London one is fairly big (three floors, stuffed with stock), and in central London so obviously in a busy area.

The Bristol one is two floors, and fairly large (possibly even a bigger footprint than the London store). I actually find it has a better range of stock than London. It's near the university and Clifton, and very rarely heaving with customers, so would potentially be a less stressful experience.

When I last went to the London branch, I couldn't find a single copy of Deep Red or Videodrome (both supposed to be £6 at the time). Whenever I've been to the Bristol branch, they've very rarely not had what I went in to find, so I suspect the London branch burns through stock quicker for particularly sought-after items.

If the Oxford branch is where I think it is, it'll be about the same size as your average HMV. I could be wrong though.

I got a few great deals in the Fopp located in Shaftsbury Avenue (near Leicester Square) when I was in London a few months ago. I didn't have my ID with me so the dude wouldn't sell me Turbo Kid (he was doing his job I know, but nonetheless my mom still got it for me hehe), but they have a great selection. I regret not grabbing The Guest when I was there. They had slipless copies for £3 and the ones with slips were £6.
